Hey guys. I'm new here and I got a question . I recently bought a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500HD with a 5.7 Hemi engine.

I'm noticing it burns a lot of oil. I changed its oil 2 months ago. Just checked today and it was down 3 quarts of oil.

Been researching some threads and people say it's normal for hemi's to burn oil????

What do you guys think?

Only 65k miles on my engine. My work Truck so I do a lot of driving.

Any info helps. Thanks!

I burn about 1-2 quarts a change every 3K. I was worried as well when I noticed, but found it's common and everyone has differing amounts they lose. I knew a guy that had an ole' Chevy with a 350 that had so much blow by that he would run chainsaw bar oil to slow it down. I'd like for mine to not burn, but I just keep an eye on it.

I disagree with hemi's and them burning oil. I have a 2004 ram 1500 with the hemi and mine does not burn oil. An engine burning oil is not good.

A little bit of oil consumption is normal. How many miles have you gone in the two months since changing the oil? 1q per 1000 miles is what Chrysler considers to be in spec.
