Yeah, it doesn't need to be warmed for 20 minutes. A little but of over kill, just don't hop in, start it up, and drive away right away on a cold day.

Really now, I haven't had a touch of engine problem in anything, no abnormal wear, nothing. My warmup procedure on the truck as long as its windshield is not completely covered in ice, is startup the engine, let the oil pressure come up, drop the thing into gear and pull away. You hurt the engine less by driving the truck. Letting it sit there and idle, lets the engine warm up slowly, causing bore wear and accumulation of moisture and unburned fuel in the crankcase, causing bearing wear.

My 06 4.7 QCSB 2wd weighing in at a heavy 5,500 lbs would knock down 20 mpg @ 70-75 mph. At 60 mph I would get 17-18 mpg. 3.55s and the OEM 33" tall P275/60/R20s just lugged the hell out of the engine. Same engine went into my brothers 03 Dakota on 31.5" tall tires. It regularly gets 24 mpg @ 75 mph. Hell the Dakota got 14.5 mpg on a 240 mile trip, towing a Nissan Sentra on a Uhaul trailer (gcvw approaching 11,000 lbs) with 500 lbs of furniture in the bed, towering over the cab. It was in minimal traffic at night and the thing towed so well I was running 60-65 mph in 3rd gear (2,600 rpm) with ease, expected to stop for fuel 2 times that night, but only had to stop once.

My old 07 4.7 sucked also. I was getting around those same numbers, but I had 35's and was 4x4. Before all the heavy stuff it wasn't all that great either... It's a nice change getting 23 MPG on the highway with the ctd lol

have you tried any of the changes yet?

I haven't tried anything yet. too busy spending money on toys for the truck. Hopefully in the month or so I'll be able to do the plugs and fluids though.

i have been checking my milage every tank and its always been around 13.5. thats going back and forth to work and around town driving. well today i drove down to upstate sc ,went a few places while there then came back home. mostly interstate soem around town. managed to pull 15.6 mpg which made me happy. yeah the gas milage isnt the best but i have to say this truck is the best pickup ive owned. eventually ill get a tonneau. i know theres a debate on if they help mpgs or not but ive had them on other trucks with positive mpg results.

Okay since starting this thread I have changed out my plugs, all new bilstein shocks and I haven't been warming up the truck nearly as long maybe 5 minutes or less. I haven't noticed much improvement if any. I just filled up last night and decided to use the fuel log app on my Droid 3 to track it so ill see what I get in couple weeks when I have to refill. Ill report back. No fluid changes yet as I spent all my money on the shocks and a double din deck for the truck.
