I think my truck might have a shift kit in it. I don't care for the way it shifts. Is there a way to remove the shift kit? Or would a new valve body have to be installed? I assume it's the latter as I know shift kits involve drilling holes amongst other things.

I believe the transgo shift kit just replaces some springs with different rates, cant recall if it needs drilling but I dont believe it does..I would think you could just grab the parts out of a donor tranny at a junkyard..or see if you could order just the springs.

but I will add, if it is shifting like it has a shift kit, I may just need the bands readjusted. OR it might have a shift kit, in which case, the shift kit is actually healthier for your transmission.

It just doesn't seem right. My uncle(a technician) thinks it is a shift kit. During every day around town driving...1-2 shift is about 2500 RPMs and so is 2-3. It just seems to be very late. And sometimes a little too firm. It makes it nearly impossible to drive at a slow speed. For example trying to drive at a steady 10-15 mph. It revs up to like 2000-2500 RPMs and hangs up then finally shifts. A real firm, maybe a little hard shift. Does that sound like a shift kit or something bad?

Well it is the 5.7 hemi. Nothing done to it as far as I know. I changed the transmission fluid and filters probably 1000 miles ago. I didn't change anything. I can't think of anything out of the ordinary.

It may be a shift kit... Only way to find out is look. Have you tried usin less throttle to see if it will shift sooner?

Yeah I've tried using less throttle. I've tried driving several different ways. I should have looked at it close when I did the fluid change.

I have a kit in my truck and part throttle/ light throttle shifts are under that. It could have a valve body fram Sharradon in it but highly doubt it if the rest of the truck is stock. The Transgo kits for these trucks are just beefier springs, a new spring plate, resistor for the trans line and a few clips. Does it do it all the time or just when the trans is cold? I can say for sure it takes longer to shift when cold, normally a few miles after the truck has been driving for the truck to even see 100* trans temp. That is with both the shift kit in the 04 and nothing trans wise done to the 05.

I don't notice too much difference in the 1-2 shift whether hot or cold. I do everything. Even let it idle in neutral when its cold in the morning.
