Can someone explain to me what it means to go a step or two colder on your spark plugs? I'm getting parts together for a tune up and am not sure what plugs to go with. 05 2500 hemi with intake, exhaust, and diablosport in-tune. Thanks.

Stay with Copper proper temp, Stock, One Colder Plug for 5.7 Hemi is stock 6.1 Hemi, 1 colder 6.1 is 2 colder 5.7.

I use 1 Colder only because it is called for with my instructions for running my Mopar Cam with a reduced Gap. If you run Nitrous, SC, or Turbo is when those Plugs come into Play.

Change your plugs every30 K Miles Max and your truck will run Great, Personally I change mine every 30 K KM (18K miles 2-3 years) as the Champions go on sale often at 2$ a Piece and the more you swap em out the faster/better you get at it. reason I change at the Interval I described is the Coppers tend to open up their Gap over time and are overgapped by the 30K due time IMO.

Edit: Slow on the trigger here, I'm not the first Responder, Smoked Ram as always is on the Ball!

Thanks for all the info!
@ramman why do you prefer copper plugs over the ever popular platinum?

Unless the new trucks are running platinum they are not Popular on a 5.7 Hemi, a ton of threads about the Hemi running best on copper Champion or NGK and I'm sure most would agree, I only run the 1 colder platinum as it was the one listed for my Cam (actually a choice for the 6.1 so maybe popular for those LX Guys not sure) My LX Car is also a 5.7 and I run Copper in it too!)

I tried the Iridiums once and Cam #2 hated them and they got tossed after only 6K miles (that was a 225$ waste/expensive NGK 2 x colders).

Colder plugs usually require a tighter gap than stock gap/gap that comes already spec'd and it is difficult to bend down the Iridiums without screwing them up as the tips are really skinny. It took me a while and some finesse to get my platinums down to 40 and keep em lined up, straight and without nicking or scuffing any of the ceramic or metal surfaces. This is what I have experienced in and around 5 x Cam Swaps which always included new Plugs Installed.

Colder plugs would be if your running a cam and longtubes to help with timing also. For what you have you could run them but oem coppers work just as well.

I use ngk 5306 plugs. That seems to be the most commonly used plug. The 4306 is one step colder
