Adding factory remote start... Guess what the dealer quoted me?

Stopped in the local dealership yesterday to pickup some touch-up paint I had ordered. I have been thinking about adding on a factory remote start system. My truck has the electric locks, windows, etc... Talked with one of the service writers about adding in the system. He said, "Yeah, we've done that before." "It'll run you about $650.00." I just stood there sort of puzzeled, then said: "What if I purchase the unit, install the hood latch, antenna, and just bring the truck into the dealership to have the programming done and the module installed?" "Oh, $250.00 or so." My question... Does this sound really high...? I've seen the system on Ebay for just at $200.00... Maybe I would be better off going with some type of aftermarket unit?

i personally think that is high, but that might be what dealers charge. On my 05 i had a aftermarket remote start(no alarm) installed for $200 and it worked great

wow...I was going to do stock, but then just ordered a simple small one button Code Alarm, and a module, and my buddy that installs them did it for $50...took maybe 1 hour...total cost $150 installed.

I was considering doing OEM but I've found the range of my doorlocks is terrible.

I live in a northern community, so shop rates are very high. I got a Compustar remote starter installed for the same as what the local dealer wanted to charge me for an OEM starter. I get the range and 2 way features of an FM kit. I think it was about $800 to get it done.

I'd go aftermarket... so much better.

I bought the oem remote start on ebay for $200. Local dealer installed for $105 or one hour of work.

Seems high but linking into the starting system in these trucks should be done by someone who knows what they are doing also. Peace of mind on a correct install is worth its weight in gold.

That is ridiculous. I just bought an OEM Remote Start system from my Dodge dealer three weeks ago for $205 (I had a 10% discount coupon). When I got it last week, I installed the Hood Latch Assembly and WIN Antenna. I didn’t need to install the Hood Switch Harness, since there was an unused factory installed hood switch harness taped back on the existing vehicle harness. The instructions that came with it were fairly clear, so it only took me 30 minutes to install. I had the Wireless Ignition (WIN) Module installed and keys programmed by the Dodge dealer for $50. I am glad I had them install the WIN Module because it quit working the next day. When I took my truck back to the dealer, they said the WIN Module was defected and they had to order me a new one.

Wow, it's funny how some dealers seem to earn the bad reputations for trying to stick it to people. I was guessing around $125.00 or so for the install. My dealer is just crazy! I think after-market may be my only hope.

I just bought the viper smart start system from Best Buy on sale so I can use it with my phone going to have them install it

That is not high. On my 2008 I had the factory remote start installed after 4 months of ownership. Total cost for kit was about $250 and $400 for install. I could of gotten a better unit cheaper but when it came down to it I got everything on one key and secon I got almost all my money back on that when I sold it to the dealer.

I had the Viper 791xv installed on my previous truck and loved it. I think the main reason why we all want the factory remote start, is because of the new key fob. We wouldnt have to have another fob, due to the integrated remote start button.
