Yeah, I kinda figured this was a budget setup. A good carb and intake manifold will set you back a few more bucks than you'd like. But I figure that it'll be worth it compared to the headaches of tuning obd1 or running on a stock tune.

Changing to a megaSquirt?
It's a rather expensive stand alone computer system that is fully user tunable via laptop and completely replaces all the stock computer hardware.
If you really want to. There's always the option of converting to a carb setup, then doing the turbo. A blow through carb setup is much more simple than trying to tune OBD1 or fajiggering with megasquirt.
Problem is, you'd almost have to go to a manual if you carbed it.
I was trying to do it the cheapest way possible if I can get a carb nice and cheap at a you pull it yard that will fit my truck I definitely will unless I have to have a special carb.

A blowthrough carb isn't going to be found in a yard. lol

Ok how about this.

Turbo, stock tune, bigger injectors, hope you don't throw a rod and call it good.

Thanks I will any particular thread or article you recommend.

Unfortunately it's been a while ago, I just remember them using a slant 6 and pulled some incredible numbers without spending very much. If I remember it right the slant 6 was originally designed to be an aluminum block and was designed to be very strong with extra main bearings. When it finally went into production is was as a iron block. Some folks wanting to build fast cheap drag cars used a basically stock engine and boosted it into making something like 500hp plus range.
As for Megasquirt, IMO it would be a waste for Non fuel injected engine management. But retro injectors onto a engine and MS really shines. Allowing user to tune ignition timing, fuel injection including sequential timing, knock sensors. All kinds of control set points for shifting, NOS, relief settings and custom maps for different boost levels. It opens up everything for tuning.

If I threw a rod I would just buy a engine used from a yard last engine I got used from a yard was just rebuilt and only had a few k on it and the kid just did all this work to his ford 5.0 and was drag racing and he wiped out and totaled the truck and we went up and got the engine for $300 uninstalled already with everything on it. We put it into my dads work van because he has a piston with a hole and it was the same motor.

If you don't care about anything and are doing it merely for spool sound and for fun, then by all means go right ahead with your project. We're not here to tell you that this is stupid or a bad idea. Most of the replies have been helpful I'd say. It's your truck, do what you want with it.

I do care and I appreciate all of the input it was just an idea I was juggling to see if it's a bad idea or not from what input I got back it's a bad idea if I do it above 8 psi and don't change anything.

By " don't care" I meant that you're really not doing this to have a huge power monster, or a track queen. Just for fun. I understand man, I've always wanted to turbo something, mainly my atv haha.

What king of quad do you have it's possible my brother has a pred 500 and a trx 400ex bored to a 440 but his friend went and bought a pred 500 and he dual turboed it I think he just put two small car turbos on it. Get a two stroke I love my cr250r it's like its turboed when powerband winds out and kicks in lol. It's more like a v-tech but still. to turbo a racing quad like a Polaris pred 500 isn't hard because the oil tank it separate from the engine so you already have a feed and return line you can tap into and there is a good amount of room to put turbos under the front fenders out of the dual headers.

I just have a sportsman 500. It's my workhorse so I doubt I'll actually turbo it, but it's fun to toss around the idea.

The cvt wouldn't hold up to much more power between the belt and in the clutch assembly there are these compound "knuckles" that engage when you give it gas in gear. You'd shear them off with much more torque... Heck I've done it twice on my 01 sportsman 400, once on my 03 sportsman 700. Knock on wood my 2010 850 xp is going strong lol.

You could definitely turbo it. I love the sports mans my gf has the 500 her mom has a 600 and her dad has the 800. I had her on the back of the 800 and the spedo hit 100. The new sportsmans are awesome with independent suspension. I used to have a Polaris trail boss the old two stroke one that thing was a tank especially in the swamps.

Yeah, the only hard part would be trying to figure out how to adapt the carb to handle boost. I figure a boost proportional fuel pressure regulator. And then trying to find a suitable turbo. I've seen they make some small ones, but I wonder if one from a small turbo car would work.

Two people on a sportsman 800, when you say 100 I'm
Assuming you mean km/h and not mph.... Because a sportsman 800 won't do 100 mph. My 850 xp has hit 80 mph under perfect conditions and the 850 is quite a bit quicker.

No I'm saying mph unless the gauge is broke we were going around 90-100. The quad is newer its the sportsman hunting edition. Unless I have the quad wrong but I know her 500 reaches around 60-70 with me on it by myself. But also we were going down a mountain when we hit that I was pinned going down a dirt mountain road.
