I've been looking everywhere on the net and I just can't get a definite answer. Some say they do while some say they don't. I'm looking at my truck info sheet and nowhere on it does it say anything about a catalytic converter. Looked under the hood and on the door and again no sticker or anything saying there's a cat installed. When I look under the truck there's something before the muffler but I think that's just a resonator.

I don't think the EPA mandated them on the diesels until around 2003 with the CRs. But I've been known to be wrong before.

From research, not sure I it is true or not

1st gen's, no cat.

2nd gen 12 valve, yes cat

2nd gen 24 valve, no cat (early 98.5's might have had them)

3rd gen (2003/04) no cat.

3rd gen (2004.5 on up) yes cat.

Keep in mind that California trucks do not follow this^
