Here's my experience:

I finally decided to try out the UPol Raptor Spray-on Bed Liner kit and do it myself. It was a lot of work, but in the end was fairly simple. The cost was much less, costing less than $200 all said and done including all materials.

The first step was getting rid of the old junk:

With only a couple screws and some 3M tape, it was off:

This is why I HATE the drop-in liners, after a few years, a lot of crud ends up underneath the bedliner just waiting to start corroding through the bed without ever seeing it happen

After that, I gave the bed a much needed bath, just using car soap and a hose... then following it up with Purple Power degreaser and the hose again.

From there it was time to start sanding... I bought 80 grit sandpaper, and a sanding sponge. I also had my sanding wheel. Of all of them, the quickest and easiest was the sanding sponges. For the entire thing, I only used 2. You don't need to go down to bare metal, just scuff up everything to give it texture for the bedliner to stick.

Since I did have some bare metal exposed, I used etching primer to cover the spots up
(sorry about the blurry picture)

From here I took the truck to the car wash and used the power washer to get everything out of the bed.

From here it was time to start prepping for the actual bedliner. The kit comes with everything you need, bedliner, hardener, and even the spray gun for your compressor!

The toughest part was the taping part. We had to make sure it was COMPLETELY taped up, because this stuff gets everywhere!

The easiest part of the whole job is the actual painting part! It's just point and shoot! We shot it at about 65psi, and the texture came out great!

After about 15 minutes you want to start removing the tape, so it doesn't harden too much, and cause you problems. We had an issue with some tape coming loose on the bed and getting bedliner down the side of the truck. After a small panic moment, some quick thinking came into play and we used some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to get it off with a little scrubbing.

After an hour, it is dry enough to touch. 2-3 days later it is ready to be used!

This looks great buddy! This statement seems a touch strange, isn't the UPOL liner epoxy (2 parts mixed before sprayed)? I'd think it'd react and be done.

Just curious.

That is just what the directions said, I went by that.

What you say does make sense though.

Does anyone know if upol will stick to plastic? My rambox tops are so faded and instead of painting i think i might just use this when i spray my bed next month.

I don't know why not. It would need well scuffed up beforehand though.

Oh gotcha! I thought you meant it felt soft for 2 days.

In a word, no.
In a few words, Not really, no.

This is what I've heard / read all around. (I wanted to cover my bed caps with a blue bed liner originally, but I cannot find any stories of this working / lasting)

Looks great! I bought my truck used and it had a sprayed in linear when I bought it off the guy from some company I never heard of. Their are some parts that peeled off and I want to get it redone, wondering how hard of a job it is to get the old crap off?

Haha no, it was hard enough to touch within about 45 minutes to an hour. I was standing in it about 2 hours later without any problems.

I ended up putting the bed cover on about 2 days later and it worked great.

I'd listen to this... I haven't done any research on it, my answer was just from my gut.

Wire wheel on a grinder, and a good respirator.
Lots of time, and even more patience.
