What I'd say to do is set yourself up with a good wash first. (ex. NOT dish soap haha)

You could use a Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo (AZ $7-10) Or Ultimate wash n wax (AZ $7-10)

Also after that depending on the paint, you could use a claybar to smooth it out, and give a nice finish for waxing.

As far as wax goes I'm a fan of Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0, for a glossy shine. Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax, is good as well.

Also Megs Ultimate (Liquid or paste) is a great wax.

I would definitely do the claybar like George said. Ive found that paste waxes work better than liquid or spray stuff

I detail cars on the side. And order a lot from AutoGeek.net. I peronally use dish washing liquid to wash the vehicle before I clay and/or apply any polishes, glazes, sealants, etc. It ensures a clean base, and removes all the old wax build up and grime. Ive been doing it for years with no problems.

I use Meguiars Mirror Glaze line as well, great stuff!

Heres a good chart to follow from Auto Geek

yep, I use Dawn dish soap to strip all the old wax and oils off the truck, then use Meguiars Swirl remover, and finally i use the Meguiars Gold Class wax to finish.

@Bigboi, super nice work there.....

Thx man! Im not a pro "Yet," but I enjoy doing it. All the money I make from it is going towards new and better equipment and chemicals.

I personally use the meguar's line, if you don't want to spend a ton go to Walmart and get Meguiar's Ultimate or tech Wax 2.0, I've used it for a while and won trophies with my previous car. Also definitely use clay bar it's an incredible product.

ALSO, I have never used nor heard of it being a good idea to use dish soap on a car invest in a good automotive car wash.

This is with Meguair's from Wally World,

its just a bar of clay lol. You use a lubricant with it and rub it on the paint, it removes contaminates like dirt and crap you cant see that wont come off with just a wash and wax. I hear lots of people use it on new vehicles off the dealers lot and it really helps remove all the crap from delivery
