Roof basket for your truck? Done!

So your looking to put a baket on your roof? well here is all the info you need to complete it.

you are going to have to order a set of cross bars that fit your truck. I went with Rhino areo blade corss bars. there are many others that will fit.

go to amazon.com and search "2010-2012 DODGE RAM 2500 CREW CAB Roof Rack Crossbars Bars with Locks by RhinoRack "

Then you will need a basket. I went with the Surco 50x50 it fits well and mounts almost perfectly with hte Rhino cross bars. There are a slew of other baskets availible, but not sure on fitment with corss bars.

The Rhino bars way exceeded my expectations, they are well build and sturdy. the directions are a wee bit confusing but by looking at pictures i was able to figure it out.

Install on the truck was not that bad, it would have been easier and i would have one less scratch in my roof.

Install of the basket was a little more difficult, The basket comes with bars to install with, throw them away, they make the basket sit another 2 inches off the truck and rattle like crazy, make sure you keep all the hardware though.

You may have to adjust the cross bars, me I liked my bar placement so adjusted the attachement holes on the basket. On the rear cross bar remove hte end caps and pull the trim out of the top rail, slide 3 mounts in the rail upside down, if you place small side up the screws dont reach and they sit angled when tightened. Screw the screws into mounts, do not tighten, center your basket, or place where you would like it. Using a sharpie mark the rubber on the front cross bar on the sides of the basket floor so you can trim it also mark the basket mounts in hte middle of the bar so you can drill holes.

All mounted and secure you can start adding your extras like hi-lift mounts, spare tire mount, tool boxes, axe/shovel mount, lights.

Ohh and the basket can support over 220 pounds, i climbed up there last night to wire in a second set of lights.

LED 4 inch lights were $28 a pop, the 13.5 bar lights are $135 a pop. the basket was $250ish, the bars were $320ish, the OEM aux panel was $100 and change, THe fuse/relay setup was another $100, then add in another $60 for wire and misc stuff. so right around $1300 and that is not including the mounts and brackets for lights and axe/shovel, hi-lift or the tools attached.

Still need to get a spare tire mount, spare rim and tire to put up there, also need to install and mount hte 13.5 bar lights on the sides of the rack.

Now that i added it all up im shocked it cost that much so far, i thought it was alot less, but i did order a few parts here a few parts there over weeks and months to piece this together.

that looks badass! im curious though...how many mpgs did you loose with that. i know when you add them to cars you drop about 2 mpgs empty. curious to know how the ram fairs in this aspect.
