Step1 - Remove old air pipe and hat. Pipe should just come off from fender and hat nothing to unbolt.

Step 2 – Mount the air hat that you have from donar vehicle (Dakota, Durango, Cadillac, or an old CAI) The one from a Dakata/Durango you will need to use the “S’ bolt that goes from the trottle body up through the hat. It will be a tight fit with the firewall right there but just maneaver it so it slides on or you can leave the bolt a little loose and angle it to get the hat on. It will eventually only be able go one way, towards the passenger side.

Step 3 - Attach the rubber coupler from the plumbing department to the hat with the suppled clamps.
Step 4 – Attach whatever filter you would like to the pipe you got in the electrical department, the Spectre filter I used covers from 2 ½ in up to 4 in pipes.

At this time you can figure a way to help support it. As you can see in my picture I just used a strap and bent it to fit, but I will be changing that soon to an electrical conduit holder mounted to my fender.

Step 5 – Attached the pipe to the rubber coupler on you air hat with the clamps supplied.
You’re done so far, unless you don’t want to paint.
For painting take all apart same way installed. Make sure since its plastic to use an adhesion promoter when painting. Then reinstall per instructions above.
You can also make your own heat shield or just buy one of the universal ones. I will be buying one shortly.

3", but to get it on the air hat you have to really tighten it down as is about 2 3/4"

Little bit of throttle response and marginal gains in the MPG department. I now have a functional hood scoop so just run the stock box with k&n drop in.

Nice! I need a new filter, definitely considering doing this now... It's there any particular Cadillac air hat that works? Or did you mean Chrysler?

The dakota or Durango air hat works for sure however it is kind of tricky getting it on and off because of the center bolt and the throttle bodies proximity to the firewall. If you use the dakota/Durango air hat you will have to install the center bolt with the air hat already on it to get it to fit. Other wise it's a pretty simple set up

Right on. I figured something that came off s Chrysler/dodge engine would be the best bet. Can't find any online, where'd you find tours?

I think my Durango air hat cost me like 12 bucks.

So was/is there any concern of the filter sucking in water when you hit a deep pothole and water splashes up inside your engine bay or when it is severely raining?

Essentially I'm asking are the gains worth the risk? Would it be less risky to buy a CAI that comes with a heat shield that seals against the hood?

Any CAI will run you the risk of getting water in it unless you get a Volant unit with the fully sealed box.
