Okay... Would it be possible to use plasti-dip as a primer over chrome??? I want to color match the chrome area of the bumper and the grill shell, but don't want to go through the pain in the ass of buying new parts or having to deal with the prepping of painting chrome.

So I was thinking of going out to get a few cans of the stuff with some inferno red paint from the auto store and trying it out. Is this stupid or could this actually work?

I don't see why it wouldn't work but I'm not the most experienced painter so hopefully someone else can help. If not you could give it a try and see what happens

Yeah thats a no brainer... My concern is if it will change the durability of the plasti-dip, will the paint chip off the dip, and will the plasti-dip change the color of the paint?

Seen a couple people do it on here. Looked pretty close to the actual color they were going for. Might be tough with red just cuz i feel like its a harder color to match. But the few I've seen that have done it turned out well.

I did it with my old grill. Worked out really well. I put actual paint primer over the plastidip. I put a ton of primer on it. Probably about 10thick coats. Gave it a very light sanding. If you sand it too hard it will peel the dip off. I put the primer on because i did not like the texture of the dip. I wanted it to be smooth as possible. It came out great, except i used terrible clear coat and didnt shine all that well. But nothing a little buffing couldnt fix. Just be careful not to buff to hard. But it turned out really good.
Then i peeled it off a little later and it still peels off well if you dont like it.

hope yall don't mind my chiming in, whenever you paint any type of smooth metal such as aluminum, stainless, or chrome, it's best to etch the metal. this can be done by spraying a metal specific etch, in your case chrome. start by scuffing the chrome, I've used triple ot, (000) , and higher steel wool, make sure to rince really well, and than wipe it down with prep sol, or equivalent, let dry, and spray. even coats will ensure Anything you paint it with will never flake, peel, or scuff off. will be glad to answer any other questions. PS. the more paint you lay down, the more problems you may have. some paints only require as little as 2 to 3 1/2 MILS, read the specs on the etch can if you decide to go that route. later man :)
