Ok, here's a little diagnostic head scratcher for anyone interested. An '03 Dakota with a 3.9 V6 with 84k miles is in for a misfire. The source of the misfire has been identified as a worn out secondary ignition and vacuum leak from a plenum pan gasket. During the diagnostic process, a compression test was performed with the following results. cylinders 1,3,4,5 & 6 are showing between 120-140 lb. psi. Cylinder #2 is showing 180 lb. psi. Anyone want to venture a guess as to the cause of the unusually high reading on #2?

Not really, but it's pretty simple and makes perfect sense.

Carbon build up

We have a winner! Carbon buid up on the #2 piston caused the compression to be higher than the average. Upon removal of the intake, a sludge trail was found in the intake runner for #2 and a borescope confirmed my suspicion.

Any pix? This is cool Randy...I agree we should have a QOTD!

No pics for this one since I had already cleaned up the sludge in the runner before I came up with the pop quiz idea and trying to take a pic of the borescope screen didn't work. I dunno if I could come up with something good like this everyday but perhaps nce a week? If anyone else wants to post up something, that would be great.
