Howdy, folks. I've been a RAM owner for just over three weeks. Last week the check engine light came on (shutters in the grill) and I took it back to the dealership. When I showed up on Monday morning to pick it up they couldn't find my truck. Eventually they found it stuck in the mud on an adjacent piece of property. Another customer's truck grew legs that night, crashed through a chain link fence and vanished.

Once they found my truck they went out to investigate. The truck they were driving sunk within one truck length and had to be pulled out. My truck was at least 100' out into the muck so I'm guessing that it was really hauling ass when it got stuck.

The service manager notified me and had a tow truck come out to winch it out of the mud. This is where it gets interesting. They offered to fix whatever they found wrong and give it back to me. From my perspective I don't want a truck with 900 miles that has been flogged by a thief. There is a police report but I have not been involved and they are keeping me uninformed.

As far as the theft goes there was no damage to the service department and both trucks were stolen using the keys that were kept in a locked box inside the service dept. Inside job, perhaps?

Are there any dealer reps or zone reps here? I feel they are taking advantage of me and doing whatever they want. They cleaned it up today, found no damage, and test drove it. No damage, no codes is what they say but I don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

I would at least take it to another dealer and have it checked out. Your in a tough spot. I think I would tell them to give you the lifetime warranty.

Brand new truck in their care and that happens..... **** that!!! Period. My truck is almost 1 year old, I still hate when it rains out on it, I personally wouldn't even dream of taking it off road. I would demand a new truck. It wasn't broken into, the keys were used!!!! And I would also take a strip off the manager for not keeping you totally involved, it's your truck that got screwed with. 900 miles.... I'dd say new truck or gimme my $$ back.

Doesn't sound like an "inside job". It seems more like somebody in the service department left keys in customers vehicles. Inside job they'd already be in a crate and/or on a boat.
I don't think you'll get a new truck. But keep at them.

Investigative reporters LOVE stuff like this - they can find out if it's an inside job, get the dealer screwed over by FCA to the point they'll give you a new truck just to shut the media up... (well, in about 30% of the cases like this)

It's a truck, if it never sees mud then why not just get an SUV in the first place? Or a Prius. It'll be fine, I'm sure.

You'd be surprised... Few years back, there was a guy with a new SRT Charger, took it in for a TSB for a shifting issue. They had his car almost a week, claiming they had a hard time setting up the TSB corrective actions. He got the car back, it had less than 1200 miles on it. He got home and noticed his seats were worn like they were in a 2 year old car with 60K miles on it; looked at the seat base and they had a different VIN on them... Turned out the service writer was using parts from customer cars to rebuild a salvaged SRT Charger that was parked in a locked, fenced in area behind the dealership...

Two trucks were stolen. One got away (to a crate or boat) and mine got stuck in the mud.

While I understand your frustration I think you're over reacting a bit.

You don't know it was some inside job of that the other truck made it to a container/boat, might still be cruising around or just stripped down. Your truck is just that... a truck so the mud isn't going to damage it and I'm sure the dealer probably went over it pretty good to cover their asses. Like someone stated, I'd atleast try and get a lifetime warranty or some mud flaps out of them lol

If you give them a really hard time be prepared to not go back to that dealership. I'd be pissed if it happened to me, but if there's no damage I'd ask for lifetime oil changes, Not a new truck

I would just ask to get a different truck since that will probably stay on your carfax now if the dealer is repairing stuff.

Have them swap it out or ask for an upgrade

Oh, I don't give a damn who did it. We've all had trucks stuck in mud or snow and we all know what kind of torture people put on trucks trying to get them unstuck. Especially STOLEN vehicles.

The dealer douche thinks he can shine it up and give it back.

He already said no. Not only no but hell no. It's been titled and has 900 whole miles on it. Several miles which were probably bouncing off of the rev limiter.

Will it be on any reports on the truck? Carfax or anything? I would definitely call mopar main and complain. Go over the dealers head

Dealers have insurance. I'm not sure how best to apply leverage, but your insurance company may be able to apply leverage on their insurance company. It's not like the thing is totalled, so they can easily send it to a dealer auction and recoup wholesale value and do the right thing by you IMHO.

Mopar main is actually very good at dealing with this. I've had multiple crappy dodge dealer run ins and any time i want real answers I just call mopar directly and they are always willing to help and usually answer the actual questions for me

Because trucks are for mud, forget about people that actually need to tow and carry stuff. ****, I don't do neither with mine, but it's my money right? :word: I'll just leave it at that.. carry on.

On topic: Situations like this ****!ng stink, but if there's no damage to the truck whatsoever, it's more of a hassle to try and fight the dealer for a new one. Make sure nothing is wrong with it and don't go back there.

Insurance hasn't been involved which is very curious to me. Since they found and recovered and "repaired" the truck they are calling everything good. They are running the show and told me I can pick it up.

This is all under the radar with the exception of the police report which I have not been allowed to see.

At this point I'm not going to take posession of the truck.

Do you mean 866-RAM-INFO? I called them this afternoon and told them the story. At that point he was very interested. Then he talked to the dealer and told me it was between me and the police.

I'm pissed.
