I have a Ram1500 quad cab, 5.7 hemi, short box. Purchased a Forest River Vibe 26'. Truck and camper porpoise really bad. Installed air ride air bags on back and new front struts. Also have EZ suspension bars. Still no help, seems the more air I add to bags. The worse sway becomes and porpoising does not go away? Anybody have any ideas? I weighed tongue, it is at 900 lbs.

Have a EZ weight distribution hitch rated for 10000 lbs. I've tried so many different combinations bolts are looking wore.

You mentioned air ride air bags. Which ones? Air lift 1000? What speeds are you traveling, is your truck lifted, 4x4?

#900 is gonna be a tricky ***** no matter how you set up but it's certainly not impossible. It's a v-nose, right? Those love to sway like a Florida palm. This, unfortunately, is a problem only $$ is gonna fix. Thankfully quality (typically) increases with price in the hitch/suspension supplement world. Msg BoldAdventure; he posted up a foolproof formula a while back for dialing in WD's with a half ton. Have fun.

2500/3500 will fix this. Ask me how I know , been there . Suspension on a half ton not enough . The 5.7 as you know will pull it fine . Suspension is not up to the task

I run a similar setup. 1500 CC, short bed with a Forest River 27VRL travel trailer. My tongue weight is about 970#.

It came with a EZ-Lift WDH as well. What a *************. I spent a lot of time trying to dial it in, added a second sway friction bar, AirLift 1000 bags on the rear coils. It would still sway and porpoise no matter what. Sell that WDH, you'll thank me later.

I switched to a Equal-I-Zer 4 point WDH. Night and day. Very little sway, porpoising was mostly gone, but acceptable. After a few runs through a CAT scale to get it dialed in it towed great!

Now, I sold that WDH and bought a ProPride 3P. Sure, it cost me $2500. BUT, it's stupid easy to hook up. And there is ZERO sway. A dang 18 wheeler could probably side swipe the trailer and it still wouldn't sway.

Point being, get rid of that ************* WDH that came with the trailer and get a quality WDH. Equal-I-Zer, BlueOx SwayPro, Hensley, ProPride, Husky Centerline TS.

Anderson recently updated their WDH to handle more tongue weight. So, that might be an option as well. They are very helpful over the phone. At least when I called them a couple years ago they flat out told me to go with something else due to the tongue weight would cause their bushings to prematurely fail. Their newer ones are updated and more beefy. Some people on IRV2 are having good results with them. So, something else to consider.

I tow a 26dbh with the Blue Ox WD and airlift bags at 30lbs. No issues. Maybe try a better WDH. The bags made a huge difference in the setup. I also run 44lbs in the back tires towing long distances. Seems to help too.

I just need to ask the people that say a certain wd hitch can fix a 1500 . I have had or tried some of what was recommended ,including air bags and the centerline & Reese dual cam recommended as a fix . Tried the wt scale thing Didn't work . Your most likely going over weight on the trucks gross / axle ,not tow wt .Only if you tow short distance -100 mi and drive 50-55 will this work .cross wind is a white knuckle experience , but if your intent is to just go somewhere local your ok . I like to travel in comfort& safety many miles . I left my 1500 2016 cc short bed 5.7 3:92 outdoorsman for a 2016 - 3500 cc long bed . Yes I sorta miss the hot rod hemi but not when towing.

Good luck

X2 on missing the hot rod. And I'll tell you straight: if I hadn't needed the extra payload I'd still be hauling Gladys with that sucker. Good hitch and bags and I could still run 55 in a Canadian crosswind (which is a soulless, hateful ***** if'n ya'll ain't been formally introduced). Again, I ain't saying that anyone should but you can tow:
34' bumper to ball
95% GCVWR
1500 Bighorn CC 2WD 5.7
and not be in constant fear of sacrificing your family to the Asphalt Gods as long as you've got a touch more than a duck's fart worth of sense in yer noggin'. Also, I'm happier than a bishop in a ***** house with the 3500 gasser. Full disclosure and all.

Have you had the setup weighed? What's the tongue weight, axle weight, what are you loading in the truck?

Really , middle ok ,not back and not with a 1500. Trying to fix a tow problem by reducing tongue wt . Is most likely not a good thing * there is a small percentage of times this may help . Like they say in the movie JAWS you may need a bigger boat [emoji41]

Maybe I missed it, but did you try getting rid of those P rated water balloon tires? Of all of the towing mods I made to my truck (since I routinely ran almost 1000lbs over GVWR much to my alarm) the most dramatic was ditching the junk rubber and putting on a good LT tire, followed closely by new rear coils. The Blue Ox I had helped too, but the most difference noticed was the tires. A good LT tire will make a world of difference I'd bet.

Tires made a huge difference when I towed my TT with my avalanche.. Night and day. I recently picked up a 2011 outdoorsman CC 1500. It has 20" wheels and cheap tires but tows %108 better than my avalanche ever did.

I'm using my same old style reese WDH 5 links, no dampener. I didn't even have to move my hitch position. It's a dream to tow. I have more of an issue with my own driving habits than with the truck and camper setup....I almost forgot it was there.

My TT is a 30' #5500 dry weight but it's closer to 7K weight with all of our stuff....then passengers and firewood. The total setup is on the edge of "pig" status...

Hello,
I have a 1500 quad cab and pull a 30' travel trailer that weighs 6800lbs with zero issues. I have the 3.92 axle so not sure which axle you're you are working with on your rig. I cruise at about 60 with zero problems other than gas consumption. I spent about 1500 dollars on my hitch.
