Had the truck up on a lift last week. Looked at the front air dam and the lower active aero. Those pieces are just asking to be ripped off or damaged. Anyone remove it yet? Looks pretty simple to do.

I would bet it’ll throw a code

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I'll disconnect the harness first just to see if it does. Another thing to add to my "to do" list.

I have the lower air dam but not the active aero. I crawled under looking for it, nothing.

I believe if you have air ride suspension then the shutters are deleted. I don’t have them on mine.

If you have air suspension you don't have the lower active aero, but should still have the grill shutters I believe.

if you disconnect the shutters you'll get an error code too, there are some "workaroumds" for this though

I do have the air ride suspension and the grill shutters are there; no lower aero that moves, just the solid piece.

Active air dam does not come with the air suspension since they already lower the truck at certain speeds

He says "When the RAM reaches 38 mph, the aero "retracts" to allow more airflow".

Doesn't it "deploy down" to deflect airflow away from the undercarriage once 38 mph is reached? That would make sense. Does he have this completely fu@kin'wrong or am I just getting stooopit?

yeah, he's wrong.......they do deploy to deflect air. I know the grill shutters open to reduce drag.

Actually above a certain speed the shutters close to reduce drag. They open back up if it senses the radiator needs more airflow (high temps).

I will be curious to see the experience our 5th gen owners have. On my 4th gen the air dam is tucked up and back under the front bumper. I have had it rub on several off road excursions, but the shape and location seems to minimize the damage. I am sure if I have to reverse through a few of those obstacles it would have been ripped off my truck. I would have been worried about damaging the active version, depending on how high it retracts

Sounds similar to the 5th gen. To remove it I would say there are about 10 (?!) nuts. The crappy part is they look like they have to be removed from the top side of the air dam where bumper and the air dam meet. You still have to do it from under the truck, but it's a weird angle.

Also the active aero part does not tuck up behind the actual bumper unfortunately, but behind the air dam. So it can be easily damaged I think. If the active aero tucked up behind the actual bumper I would try to attached the air dam to the active aero and have them move as one piece. Best of both worlds. Better aero at high speed. Ground clearance at low speed.
