How To: Install a 2018 4C (UAQ/UAS) Radio in 2013 - 2017 RAM

The hard part is finding a good price on a UAQ or UAS radio. All the ones I have seen lately are going for $800+ if you can find one on Ebay or LKQ.

Ok, installed RAS in my 2014, already installed steering wheel controls. No volume control via steering wheel. Am I screwed or do I need to wait a while? Sirius already on, although in preview. Any hints?

Also should say that everything fit correctly, Bluetooth flawless, radio, Sirius, etc were LL fine, just no volume control or voice commands.....so close, yet so far....

It is, from a 2019 built in 2018. I took a calculated risk, would not have thought steering controls would be the holdup. Everything else works right, so well....****..... Going to disconnect battery for a while. No reason that would make a difference, but what the hell! Still have my old radio, I can sell or return to LKQ, but would rather it worked LOL!

If you can find the pin out for the radio and compare the 2019 to 2018 you might be able to see what pins the 2019 radio use for the steering wheel controls and if it’s possible to move the pins to the correct locations.

Did you steering wheel controls work fine with your old radio? If so. Something weird is at work here.

They worked fine with my ra2. Pretty sure it is a physical connection, and not controlled through pcm. Will disconnect everything and try again....wierder stuff has happened. Maybe I pushed my luck too far, at least this is a non disabling mod, LOL!

I'm surprised it plugs in? Didn't know 5th Gen radios could work in 4th gens ...(rubs chin thoughtfully, looks up 5th Gen Heavy Duty Part Numbers for dash parts).

Just looked over a 4th gen 19 classic 'DS' radio Pinout and a 5th gen 19

5gen DT radio has the same ...
Power
Ground
CAN C
CAN IHS
AUX AUDIO
CD Changer inputs
Mic inputs
Speaker outputs

But is missing the following inputs from the 4th gen trucks radio ....
Airbag Deployment Signal
Backup Camera video

So in theory, the DT radio can't interpret the volume signals the 13-18 4th gen trucks are sending over the CAN bus (without some sort of interface between them, like the 13-14 trucks need for the heated seats with an 18 radio). ... Plus no backup camera since the 4th gen is putting that info on the CANbus also I believe

Well ****..... Guess I am returning it. Thank Mike, I will make sure I am more precise in my search next time at LKQ...

update: I did disconnect the battery, let it sit for about 30 min, and then uninstalled it and checked all the connections. No volume controls, and the backup camera didn't work. Mike is good, verified that from a canbus drawing. I saw all the postings about 2018 being the first year, & thought I could be smart & use a early 2019 vehicle - go figure.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I'm going to keep looking, I just can't stomach the idea of the infotainment solution, just too pricey. I will say that using the 5.0 bezel really wasn't that bad - yes, you can see some edges, it is definitely tolerable, but if I'm honest with myself, I probably would have eventually bought the bezel from infotainment, without the volume knob a few months from now.

@Jerzey111 if that UAS you now have was the ebay radio & bezel combo deal, then it was out of a 2019 Classic which is still a 4th gen. Just going from memory and looking at my post you responded to a while back.

I just ordered a UAQ from an auto salvage dealer on EBay. I want to get the anti theft code online, and tried a couple of links from the forum. They came back as server down. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced online service that is still in business.
