Got my 2500(5.7) and 5th wheel loaded up and stopped by the scales, I’m at 9550lbs... I have the rear airbags at 20psi and truck is level. So 550lbs over GVWR heading on a 900 mile round trip adventure. Still well under axle ratings and combined ratings. Would be under GVWR with the 6.4(which i will never understand). Looking forward to the trip! 0 worries

And if it is in Florida, when you get food in Disney tell them it is your kids birthday and they give you a free desert. They never check and just hand you it. We do it every lunch and dinner so each kid gets a snack, :)

Nice guys !!!! Hope you have a safe trip down and back.

Congrats on the Floridian! Great place. Wife and i stayed there on our honeymoon in 2002. Loved it!

I'm thinking of pulling the rig down to ft wilderness some year, but never stayed there.

Is it worth the fuel going down (I'm in PA), or cheaper to stay in one of the all star resorts for the week?

Pros and cons of each? I love camping and think it would be neat to camp there.

Are the sites decent? Big enough \not all on top of each other?

What parts of the campground are good to stay in that are not so packed and have big sites? (Pleanty of room for truck and trailer )

One plus for ft wilderness is the hoopy do is right there!

Sorry to get off topic, in your thread, but I'd love to hear any thoughts on my questions. Thanks!

We have stayed at the value resorts every time we’ve been until now. So excited about spending time in Fort Wilderness. From what I’ve heard you could easily spend a couple of days there and have plenty to do without heading to the parks.

Thanks kev. I'll have to post this sometime on rv.net to get the thoughts there. Probably more folks there have done it, some probably many times.

I do love Disney. It's like it' own little world. For the week your there, you forget about the stresses in life and just have fun. It' great

We spent a week down there with our kids a few years ago. We learned real fast to get to the parks when they open and beat the crowd. By early afternoon the places were crowded and the lines endless.

The Mrs. and I will be leaving on a cruise out of Port Canaveral in a week, followed by a week at Disneyworld (Key West). Generally, we alternate between Bay Lake Tower and Boulder Ridge, but since we will be just getting off a cruise, we opted to save a little and stay at Key West for the first time. I'm apprehensive about how far it is from everything, but I do like the ambiance at Key West. My wife and I are Disney Pro's, so we'll manage.

We have considered pulling a travel trailer down to Fort Wilderness, but it would be a pretty long haul, and fuel would cost a body part or two. We have also looked into renting one of those really big travel trailers and having it already set up for us when we get there.

Let us know how your trip goes, and if you like actually staying in a TT at FT Wilderness. BTW, when we go around Halloween, we usually rent a golf cart at Ft. Wilderness so we can drive around and look at how everyone decorates their campsites for Halloween. Some people do some pretty cool stuff.

Make sure you put the Valentine decorations out!

Hey Guys, For those on the fence about hauling your camper to Fort Wilderness... DO IT. By far, nicest campground(no surprise) we have ever been to. Could easily spend a week without leaving the campground

Kev where did your trip start? I assume you are back home already?

We live in Maryland and left on Feb 8th and drove a little over 900 miles to Anna Maria Island, between Tampa and Sarasota. We LOVE it down here and the weather has been AMAZING our entire stay.

I took my wife on our first camping trip in my parents Class C to Disney back in 2005 for New Years and we LOVED it. I had gone before with my parents once, and then 3 more times with my school. This time of year seems about perfect to go... less crowds as US and European schools are in session, better temps (not too hot, not too cold). My kids are 5 and 3, so a little too young for us to spend that kind of money on a Disney Trip that likely won't be remembered. We are planning to go in another 4 or 5 years. Still debating staying at Fort Wilderness or staying off site. Wife and I stayed in Tropical Palms in Kissimmee and loved the park and short drive to Disney.

Thanks for this! How far of a pull is it for you? Any area of the cg better than others? Sites big enough or on top of each other?

Just actually made it back today. We started out of Montgomery, AL and drove to Tampa last Friday and spent a couple of days at Bay Bayou RV resort(top notch), but a lot of snow birds. Let the kids meet the Dolphin Tale movie Dolphins in Clearwater. Made it to Fort Wilderness and all I can say is wow. The scenery is great, feel like you are miles away in the wilderness. Some of the spots are tight but you have natural separation with bushes and small trees. We stayed in the 1100s right across from the Meadows store and pool. Each night there is a movie, fire and s’mores at the meadows area. Pioneer Settlement area was right up of the road. It has Pioneer Hall, Trail End Buffet, small ranch for pony rides, and its right at the lake(transportation to Magic Kingdom) and other stuff to do. There was another pool in the cabin area that wasn’t very crowded, we enjoyed going there with the kids. I was depressed when we left this morning, would give it a 5 star review. I also think a golf cart is a must to do all the resort has to offer.
