Looks like I'm never buying RAM again...

So, on a whim, I headed over to RAM's website to check out trucks (I like to "window shop" occasionally) - and I was sorely disappointed to discover that they're no longer going to produce any V8 trucks... I hate anything that is 6- or 4- cylinder and refuse to buy anything with those type of engines. So, needless to say, unless I go with something used, or they decide to start producing V8s again, I'll never be buying a RAM truck again. That sucks, because they HAD (IMHO) the best trucks on the market. The 2024 TRX is way overpriced as well - and it's going to be the last model with a V8.

That being said, what are your thoughts on this?

What “help” do you want? You clearly already made up your mind and no one else’s thoughts are going to change that. This is old news anyways and the topic has already been thoroughly exhausted in other threads.

What I'm looking for is people's thoughts on the whole thing - am I right in feeling/believing that RAM has made a bad decision to follow this track? I didn't see anything specifically about this in the forums, but I'm sure you're right that this has been discussed already. What is the general consensus (is it good/bad)? Whatever anyone's thoughts are on this - other than being snide or rude - would be great to hear. If you don't want to deal with my post, or if you feel it's been beat to death - don't read it, and don't bother replying. I've seen 100's of posts here where the answers were already in the forums - but I either try to be helpful or just don't answer - esp. if I see other's have already answered.

I have read that the 6.4 Hemi like the one I have will still be available on the HD versions.

Times are changing and the Government is forcing it with heavy fines on auto manufacturers who don't meet mileage standards as a whole. The HEMI is a casualty of the green revolution going on.

You now if they produce an inline 6 it wouldn't be all that bad. That's what's in every semi. Inline 6 have awesome torque. Simpler engine design. Lighter weight.

Yeah Ram like others having to kneel before the epa is going to kill V8s. But is that what killed the V10? Or did they realize they could get better everything with the V8?

Imagine when the day comes where we are like Australia and have to apply for a permit from government to even buy/own a truck?

Let me start out with I'm going to miss the V8 because I grew up with them. My first car was a 69 (I think) Camaro with a 396. Amazing I'm still alive, actually! And there's no way on God's green earth I could have afforded the insurance on something like that when my kids became old enough to drive. Times changed/evolved.
But, my goodness, just look at everything that's changed/evolved in the last 125 years. When I think about that - I really do wonder why we're still using an internal combustion engine. What in the world has made this thing hold on this long?
It's not just RAM. It's going to be everyone. We're seeing it change/evolve. I don't think this generation will ever accept it. But this generation will pass, and the next one will only read about them in textbooks.
There's going to be lots of growing pains - think current electric cars!
The next generation can enjoy their Jetsons vehicles. As for me, they can drive me to the cemetery in the back of my V8 truck!

If I had to I would look for low miles pre covid truck. We all know anything made during covid sucks anyway. Completely agree though getting rid of 8hemi is pure stupidity and for those who say adopt I would say ....um no.

Have you seen the majority of the GM trucks, both large and small.... is now a turbo 4 cylinder. Like others here have already said, times are a changing, and I doubt it its going stop. Honestly for a 1500 series truck, which I would use like a car anyway, it wouldnt matter what engine it had. If I thought I was going to actually need a truck, and use it even remotely as a truck...I would just buy a 2500. Oh wait, I already did!

For the little bit of work the 1500 is rated for and the power & efficiency of a 6cyl, it's no surprise V8s are going.
If the demand is big enough I'm sure there will be companies out there offering V8 swaps. Then you can worry about the manifolds snapping bolts and lifters self destructing again. Good times.

I agree with the OP. Unfortunately it's the government forcing this type of things on the automakers. I'm not opposed to changes but at least keep the V8 as an option. I read in another group I'm in that the new hurricane I6 turbo only gets like 2 mpg better than the hemi. Real world mpg numbers won't be anything close to what the manufacturer claims they'll be, they never are. Fortunately, with any luck, I'll be keeping my 21 non-etorque hemi for awhile

I love my V8s. I also do not see myself paying the price for a new truck. Especially some 6cyl on steriods or a oversized golf cart. For those who are into those things, I will contribute by not buying either of those types of vehicles. I know my choice will not affect the bottom line of any manufacturer.
However, if I am ever in the market for a Ram, I hope to adopt a well taken care used Ram with a V8. Until that time, I will enjoy my low mileage cream puff Ram.

I personally don't care. I have a 2019 2500 with the 6.4 hemi. I always had cummins engines before that. I went with the hemi because my short drives to work I figured I would have problems with the emissions. Of course, when I got the hemi and started looking around here...all I hear is lifter and cam issues. I just want something that is efficient...the hemi is probably the least efficient v8 out there, something reliable...the hemi definitely has its issues there. So, I don't care if it's a 6 cylinder...if it gets better MPG, and is more reliable and has more power...that's a win, win ,win. I'm not saying it will do all those things, only time will tell, but if it does...why be upset about that?!?!

I would keep what you got right now, its pre covid pre chip shortage, I purchases my 2019 in 2019, maybe look at a 2022 without eTorque all the 2023 have it I don't care about the current models and especially the twin turbo I6 that's going to have growing pains, you're not going to replace the V8 rumble.
The G/M 2.7l 4cyl turbo is a pos my SIL owns one he hates it!!!

Search "hurricane" and you'll get dozens of pages of what people think about it. It's a well covered topic already.

If you want a Ram V8 your options are used or 2500/3500.
