At least Ram didn't decide to go all EV. It's the times we live in. If you grew up with V12 or V16 engines, the same thinking would be there - you don't want to get fewer cylinders.

For me, I use my trucks to plow, even my 2011 1500 5.7L. It's a great truck. The 3.0L I6 uses intercooler, electric steering, etc, so Ram has essentially turned the 1500 into grocery getter status. Buy what works for you. Perhaps I'm just pouting a bit because I need to buy a larger, heavier, more expensive 2500 truck, to replace this one for plow duty now.

In the early 1980's, Dodge said goodbye to V8's...Until they figured out consumers wouldn't buy those turbo 4cyls they were putting into everything. Oh yea, goodbye to RWD...Yea, that lasted a long time....Not.

Oh yea, one more thing...People forget that for years...and years and years....BMW has been making good, reliable power from inline 6's. And before someone calls out the VANOS issue, take a hard look at your beloved Hemi cam/lifter issues. A design flaw...That has been allowed to go on since 2003. Two Thousand and three...Many things point to insufficient oiling, with a hundred other possible reasons proposed by many people for those cam failures. .entire internet discussion groups dedicated to finding solutions to it....And Ram has ignored it, for the most part. You're sad to see that go?

I think it’s a bad decision on Stellantis part but they are just bowing to political pressure and legislation like all of them. Keep it in mind when your next opportunity to vote in the elections comes around. In the meantime it’s not to late yet to get in on a new Hemi RAM. Inventory levels of 2023 and early 2024 models are high and some good deals are out there. You may not get something exactly as you would order it but sometimes that’s a small thing.

Otherwise, there are still the V8s from Nissan Titan, the GM/Chevy twins, and the Ford F150/250.

Fed mandates create nothing but problems.

Government is NOT the solution. Government IS the problem.

There is nothing good about the Green line of crap from the Feds and tree huggers.

EVs. The (NOT) solution where there is NO problem.

Capitalism and market forces, consumer choice, is the best solution.

Only reason I did is because it was in British Columbia for a very short period of its life, imported in the US and sold with no warranty, but having had it looked over with a fine-tooth comb and knowing who owned it and how it was taken care of, to me that was so worth saving over $20k cash from a new one or even 10 to 15k for a CPO with those miles! I'm also mechanically inclined enough, not too worried about it.

Get ready to latch on to an older truck with a v-8 and be prepared to pay for major expense repairs in order to keep it long term. ALL manufacturers are getting away from v-8 trucks due to the myopic CAFE standards in effect.

There is a smidge more to the story, though, as the SO has more horsepower, and a much better/fatter torque curve than the 5.7 Hemi. What are you going to compare the HO to? The Scat Pack 392 has never appeared in the 1500, and the Hellcat TRX is a whole 'nother animal.

I am a V-8 fan, but if the Hurricane proves reliable I'd have no hesitation buying one.

Nothing wrong with a 6 Pentastar except lack of sound and pleasure you get when romping it a little...THOSE DAYS ARE GONE...but i'm 70 i'll be able to buy a good USED truck if/when I want as long as i'll live. hell I got a 2011 Ford lariat ext cab at home in IL with 196000 miles and a good 5.0 coyote type motor and nice leather with upgraded sound system As little as I drive it anymore I'm happy with THAT.

540hp and 521 ft/lb of torque because they are trying to 'be green'. :jester:

If you want to be green, stick with the pentastar V6. Still the lowest power numbers and, of course, best fuel economy as a result.

People are surprised a performance engine that makes roughly 150 hp more than the engine it replaces gets worse fuel economy? Get the V6 if you're worried about fuel economy.
