Yeah but on standard CB with reg antenna nah

LOL, details, details.

You already have a tower, just grab a pre-amp mic, slap up a 5/8 wavelength antenna and get on with it already. LOL

Honestly, I can't recall ever talking skip with Texas. That might be pushing the envelope, just a bit.

I had lots of fun with CB when I was a teenager. I still remember, XM49-33357

Me either, sort of, although, I did have a 5/8 wavelength antenna on my parent's roof, connected to a mobile rig in the basement.

I know that I have a mobile CB somewhere with a mag-mount antenna for when the cell networks crash or get taken out.

CB radios will be golden again if the cell services ever become compromised.

I had an Audiovox AM/FM/CB radio in my 1956 Chevy pickup & a 1966 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
Since then, i have had CBs in a 1999 Chevy 1/2 ton, 2009 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton & now my 2016 Ram 1/2 ton. Trucks were used for business
I think that i have at least 4 handheld CBs & 2 Mobile CBs with all the fancy stuff.
I sold 2 Base Stations & a large Linear Amplifier, with those, i was able to have 2 way conversations from here close to San Diego to Texas, Japan, & quite often to a US Air Force Ship up in the Aleutian Islands, but when we talked to the radio operator on the ship, we were using the Bandwidth that the Lady that owns Oscar Meyer, communicates with her Fleet of Trucks over that frequency,
IF you were to look for that frequency, you would be on Channel 99.
Yes, we were broadcasting illegally, but i was only using 200 watts.
Some ppl like Big Tex out of Texas, would get high or drunk & when he did, he would crank up his linear to 500 watts & hold down his microphone key, then you could not use that channel or other channels that he bled over onto.

Back in those days, it seemed like everyone belonged to CB or HAM radio clubs.
Many times, a club or 2 would have Turkey Hunts, after Supper.
The person that was chosen to be the Turkey, would drive to some location, usually up on a hill, everyone else looked for them, like i would ask the Turkey a question & they would have to answer.
Everyone else would check their CBs SWR meter to see of they were closer or further away from the Turkey, also we used triangulation, to help to find them easier.
When we found the Turkey, we would party there or pick another place.

Simple FUN !!

I remember when I got my CB, I had to file and get a "license". FOR some weird reason, I still remember my 4 Letter, 4 number CB license #.

I still remember my dads cb handle from the 70's,Salty Road base and salty road mobile, lol. There were times we could talk to Texas on the base, but the weather conditions had to be right, and it was always well after the sun went down

I got my CB call numbers back in the mid 1970s
I likely still have it, in an old cigar box, with a 1928 $2.00 dollar bill, some of my early Drivers Licenses, etc.

On the CB, When i was shooting DX , ( long Distance ), my handle was Tom Tom, that was before i started riding motor cycles & i got named Grizzly Tom, that is what the GT stands for, as my sign in here, the yankee is from being raised in Connecticut

I had a 1928 $2 bill too! Took it to a coin collector a few years ago to see what it was worth. Turns out it was worth two bucks LOL I gave it to my son after that. Who knows, it could be worth something some day.

I had a Canadian 1954 $1,000 bill, took it to a collector awhile ago,and found out it was no longer legal tender, and it was worth basically nothing, good thing my local bank was still accepting them at face value.

That's only funny because your bank made good on it. :favorites13:
The Banks are still accepting them at face value, but for how long i don't know.

"The $1,000 denomination stopped being issued in 2000, and it is no longer considered legal tender. Essentially, you won't be able to spend them in a cash transaction.

This does not mean that the notes are worthless, however. The Bank of Canada says it will continue to honour them at face value. You can take them to your financial institution or send them to the Bank of Canada to redeem them. Or, you can keep it. "

I remember making long distance calls to Ontario from my Dad's marine radio in the early 90's while sitting in his 18' Hurston hardtop (Volvo Penta engine) in the middle of the ocean so far from shore you couldn't see land... VR8544N..... ;) I had the call signs clocked in memory...

Those were the days indeed..my young teenage years....
My gf then.. we broke up over the radio... I was gooned and flogged by all those mariners who heard the whole convo.... FML....

A few week later I met a troll at Burard Civic Marina in B.C.... she was a chicken hawk hunting for a little chick... and I was the recipient of a weekend... I still remember :)

Dang... this brought back memories!

My ex is a lot lizzard...She said you still owe her twenty bucks.
The purple or blue cab lights... eh.. ;)

I recall being a teenager working at the Esso on HWY 401 Eastbound just before Port Hope...
The Lot-Lizards were out in force back then and as greasy as pan in an indian restaurant after being cooked with for a month and no cleaning.... :)
