Following up, what would cause an engine to stutter when activating all 8cyl out of the MDS 4cyl mode? It makes a loud ticking when it activates as well. Is that an injector issue? Spark plugs? I’m not having reduced fuel economy which is a common issue with lifter problems I’ve heard as well.

Having been in and driven newer rams the transition from 4-8 is seamless, so I know the stuttering isn’t normal. I don’t want it to get worse. I’m gonna start off with a Gumout/ lubrication regiment this month to see if that helps but wondering if anyone else has experience this?

Does ticking remain constant when all cylinders are engaged? Does engine run without problem/hesitation when all cylinders are in use? If the only problem is when engine resets 8 cylinder operation and no other issues then doubtful it is spark plugs or injectors. Have you run for codes? Wouldn't start throwing money or fluids at it until you track down issue. Have you changed oil and looked for metal shavings in it?

I'd try driving it around for a few days with MDS disabled and see if I notice any issues with the engine running on all 8 full time. It could be an issue with the MDS system itself.

It has no performance issues, it is a little loud when the accelerator is stepped on and not from the exhaust I can notably hear it in the wheel wells when passing cars or any solid vertical surface I drive by.

I recently put headers on to fix the manifold issue and I heard that since they’re generally thinner sometimes you can get more engine noise at the wheel wells than if you had stock manifolds.

It only ever stutters leaving the MDS to full engine usage. No engine stutters or delays while mds is deactivated.

@tron67j i have no codes to indicate engine malfunction, I have a p1009 minor code which has to do with humidity sensor. I have a big road trip at the end of the month I’ll take a sample of the oil change I do after it and blackstone it. I just did a fresh oil change 500km ago.

I’ll try and see if I can get a video of the engine noise kicking out of mds in the next couple days to post for some extra context.

Engine has 155,000 km on it. Premium full synthetic always every 5-6000km. Blows my mind the dealer still puts a sticker on the window for 13,000km between changes knowing the hemi problems.
