    Synthetic Oil

I have 1 more question about oil, does new unopened oil have a shelf life. If so how long before it starts breaking down. I have an opportunity to purchase some pennzoil ultra at a reasonable price and wondered if I should stock up for the future. Thanks again

    Synthetic Oil

Thanks again all, I like the idea of 6000, that will be about once a year the way I drive. Bought the truck new in Ferbuary and its got 1400 on it right now , but wife and I are heading out next week for a 2000 mile trip. Thanks again

    Synthetic Oil

Thank you very much for the advice, that's what I'll go with. Can you tell me how many miles I can expect to get between changes, or should I just go with the oil change meter on the truck. Thanks again,

    Synthetic Oil

Thanks for your replies. I'm in central Missouri. Not real cold here in winter, 5-20 lows. 20- 40 highs. I tow 9,000 lb 5th wheel about 2000 miles annually. Drive 6,000 - 7,000 miles annually.

    Synthetic Oil

Ok, I've done a lot of reading here and I'm still confused as to what would be the most preferred oil and filter to use in a 2018 _2500_ 6.4_ 3:73. Should I use and Amsoil or Redline, 0w - 40 or 5w-30, book calls for 0w-40 so I'm leaning there. Now the filter, Fram or RP , who makes the RP and...

    6.4 transmission staying too high

, I have a new 18 2500 6.4 - 3:73, Whats the Trans Quick Learn? and whats a pedal commander? where can you get these things? Sorry for being so ignorant but I've been driving a 97' dodge for 22 yrs. and I've never heard of this stuff. Thanks

    5.7 hemi engine comparisons

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've owned 2- 2500 dodge trucks in 30 yrs. and both held up great and I owe that to them both being 2500 models. They are built a lot tougher then 1500s so where I live and what I tow I would never go back to a 1500. So my wife and I went to a dealership...

    5.7 hemi engine comparisons

Thanks Chrisp, but I'm not to worried about pulling hugh loads but I do want a motor that will hold up. If I was going big loads I'd go 6.7 cummins. I'm just looking to figure out if the 5.7 will be satisfactory for what I need and not give me headaches . There's so much over kill out there, and...

    5.7 hemi engine comparisons

Why the 6.4 over the 5.7, is there really that much of an advantage with an additional 26 or so more hp. I have 409 gear ratio in this old truck and there a mileage killer. My father had an older 2500 chevy with 373 gears ( 350 motor) and his truck pulled just as well and mileage was 3-5 MPG...

    5.7 hemi engine comparisons

I'm sure hoping a new 5.7 would get better MPG, my old 5.9 only gets about 14 MPG empty, towing it drops to 8-9. Its been 21 yrs, since I've looked at new trucks so thats why I asked you more knowledgeable folks for help. Dealers are liable to tell you anything so its good to hear from those...

    5.7 hemi engine comparisons

I have an old 1997 2500 ram with a 5.9 gas engine, I'm thinking about trading up to a new 2018 ram 2500 with a 5.7 hemi. I do pull a RV 5th wheel ( dry weight 7,000) occassionally on short trips ( 70 to 100 miles) from home. The old 5.9 does a good job with no issues so are these 2 engines...

Need opinion on towing heavy Travel Trailer

I don't mean to be a downer, but I'd stay with the Ford and keep the tundra. No further then your towing thats a lot of jack to spend for 600 miles a year. I've been pulling campers (5th wheels) for almost 30 yrs. and didn't need a new truck for local camping, but now that I'm retired and...

Talk me out of a trade

I'm new here when it comes to posting, I drive an old 97 3/4 ton dodge with only 120,000 miles and would love to trade up but when it comes to added insurance costs, added personal income tax costs, not to mention the cash costs of a new truck , that pretty well turns me off from a new truck...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Hi Johnn123, Just to make sure I understand what your saying, I should just unplug the wiring on the front O2 sensor then unscrew it and remove completely. I don't need to disconnect the O2 wires from the engine anywhere? Then with the O2 sensor hole empty drive the truck and see if its doing...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Thank you wingnut and Johnn123, I got unexpected busy right after my last post and haven't had time to mess with it. I'm hoping to get back to it this next week. Can the local auto repair do a exhaust test to see if the cat is blocked before I go to the expense of replacing it. Thanks again...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Thanks merc 225hp, I only replaced the front O2 sensor and I don't remember the brand, picked it up at the local auto parts store, but MPG was bad before so the O2 didn't have any effect. I'll replace the rear O2 and the ect and see if that helps things out. I know the MPG drop was significant...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Hi Merc225hp, Done everything you mentioned, last fall mpg dropped and engine began using oil badly, did a vacuum test and figured plenum gasket was bad, replaced plenum plate and gasket (it was bad), that took care of the oil usage problem but MPG still bad. Replaced plugs, wires, rotor cap...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Thank you Merc 225hp. that's it, a 2 wire sensor sitting just barely to the left side of the AC pump, looks like its going to be a nightmare to get to but at least I know which one to replace. Another question, can it be bad and be causing problems with MPG and not trip the check engine...

    engine cooling temp sensor

Hello everyone, I have a 1997 2500 dodge ram, 5.9 engine. resently my gas mileage has dropped from 15 mpg to around 10 mpg, a local machanic told me it could be the ECT sensor. I decided to change out the sensor just to see if he's right but I'm having problems locating it. The one sensor I...
