You can replace the parts yourself for two hours work and $100. The one under the truck was my culprit and is a little difficult to get to. Apparently there is a heat shield you can remove to make it easier, I did not do that.
Good news, found a real mechanic and had them smoke test it. Turned out that when I replaced the ESIM on top of the tank I did not get the gasket seated all the way right. He said smoke was pouring out from there and had it fixed after a few minutes.
This confirms to me that the dealer did not...
Yes all the buttons work, steering wheel and controls are fine. The only thing the truck was there to have looked at was the evap codes.
They rolled the clock spring repair into the tank repair charge. $1,200 parts and labor for the clockspring.
I have been chasing a few different codes down and just noticed the rollover cap in the filler neck is missing. Could that cause a evap code? Specifically related to the gas cap, 0455,0456,0457?
I’m going to get a 3rd opinion now. I took it to a mechanic who basically said take it back to the dealer and have them flash the computer? He said that would clear the codes and until then I would always see them. He did not do a smoke test just ran the codes and looked at what I had already...
I’m definitely getting a second opinion. Found a guy on YouTube with a shop 45 minutes from my house. He was showing how to fix the exact same codes I have and that it was just a disconnected line.
I have a 2015 Ram 1500, 87,000 miles with all three of these codes. I replaced the gas cap, ESIM and purge canister already. Dealership says I need a new gas tank and is asking right at $4,000. Has anyone else needed to go to that extreme to fix these codes?
