Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins

For me the gas vs diesel thing was only partly an economic decision. I live in Canada, and I froze by butt off in my last two Cummins diesels during my short commute. I won't argue that the diesel will be a superior pulling rig - that's a given. I will say though that the Hemi does just fine...

    1) True, but as far as my research has shown, the 6.4L Hemi engine and tuning is the same, it's just the way it is measured (and SAE certified) due to the weight class that causes the different rating. 2) None. My last two trucks were Cummins diesels, and I tow a 37' 5th wheel with mine. I...

I hated the way there was a couple large holes in the lower air dam on my truck. I know that they are there for use in the Cummins powered trucks for the 4th or 5th heat exchanger :) to get some fresh air, but on the Hemi trucks, it's just a hole -- much like the one between the tow hooks, but...

Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins

The towing mpg is in the videos. The Hemi sat at about 7 mpg once it stabilized, the Cummins at 11 mpg. Empty, I get 16 - 18 mpg (Hemi) and SKG gets about 20 - 21 mpg with his Cummins.

Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins

We didn't have a stop watch, but if you watch the videos closely, I think they are both about 22 seconds to 60 mph.

Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins

The payload of the 2500 (mine) is just over 3000# -- maybe your figures are for a Cummins powered truck? Mine is a Hemi (lighter). The 3500 SRW Cummins is just under 4000#. The guy that owns the RV drives the 3500 diesel in the pictures. Both haul it just fine as our testing showed. That...

Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins

Ram 2500 Hemi vs 3500 SRW Cummins - TEST FEST! What follows is a series of tests a buddy and I did using his Silverback by Cedar Creek 5th Wheel RV. It's 40 feet long, and loaded as it was, it weighed in around 14,000#. We did mpg tests, suspension squat tests, and 0-60 runs with each...

    Tailgate assist

Lubing the bearings on the installation tool and putting threadlocker on the stud before installing is what I did and it has been trouble free. You have to follow the instructions step by step.

6.4L Hemi vs Ford 6.2L vs GM 6.0L gas 3/4 ton

CLICKY *Keep in mind that for the Eisenhower grade test, the Ram/Hemi was hauling more weight than the other two. 1800 lbs more than the GM, and 3100# more than the F250. From the article: "We knew we wanted to do something special here, so we opted to run each truck as close to its...

Yes, mine came on too for misfire issues when cold. I didn't hear misfires but the computer detected them. Dealer said there was a TSB and reprogram to fix the issue as it is pretty common. Mine has been good since the reprogram.

    6.4L Hemi tow test

Gears are 4.10. I didn't unhitch and do the full empty and hitched weight, but when hitched up, the weights were: Front axle - 4380# Rear axle - 5330# ------------------ Total - 9710# Trailer axles 10,800# --------------------- GCW - 20,510# My truck has 3000# payload and a 10,000# GVWR...

Oh, and that picture makes it look a little tail saggy, but it doesn't sit that way. The coil springs are great. Here's a better pic taken directly from the side.

    6.4L Hemi tow test

I towed my 5er 3000 Km (about 1900 miles) over the past three weeks. The 5er weighs 12,000 plus (I weighed it), and is 37.5 feet long, and has 3 slide outs. I towed through rain storms, in calm weather on flat roads, some into headwinds, and eventually into the steep grades in the Canadian...

Ya, about what I expect when towing....7 to 9 mpg. I'll be just fine with that for the 5 days per year the RV is behind the truck.

Keep in mind that was with no wind on flat terrain. I'm sure when i hit the hills and/or a stiff headwind, the mpg will drop sharply. I'm OK with that though, I knew going in that the big Hemi and 4.10 gears would not be a gas miser. So long as it doesn't keep me in the slow lane with the 18...
