I bought the stubby for my 2014. Looks good but reception sucks. I'm only about 25 miles south west of Chicago and it's still bad. I'll be removing it soon.
They do generate heat however it's all in the rear of the light. I work for an electrical supply house. Commercial led lights have big heat sinks behind the diodes to help keep them cool. The front side where the light is emitted stays cool.
If he's using the lights to face the rear of the...
I've always passed on the undercarriage protection. Never had any rust issues and I live in the Midwest. Now if they had something for the rear quarter panels I'd invest in a heart beat.
My dealer also wanted $90 for a 6.4 oil change. I bought one of their service contracts for $185 for 4 oil changes. I can't do it myself that cheap. I've been changing mine when it gets down to 25% which is right around 5500 miles.
If they mount like my mopar stainless ones you'll need something they call "rivnuts" that mount into the factory hex shaped holes under the body. The bolts then screw into those. They cannot be removed once installed so if these are factory take offs they won't be included.
What gears does it come with? You might be a little under powered in that truck unless you're coming from a similar truck with a gas engine. I would hope it would have at least 4.56's.
What are you getting charged for an oil change in these trucks? My dealer quoted me $90 for my 6.4 but it is full synthetic. I bought one of their service contracts and got 4 oil changes for $180. I can't do it myself for that much.
I see this is an old post but did you ever get it fixed? I was thinking maybe a bent or out of balance drive shaft.
The front tires on my 06 F550 wear bad too. I get about 50k out of them but the outside edge wears a lot faster.
If you aren't towing regularly the 3.73's will be just fine. I've towed 9000 lbs with mine without a problem. I just set the cruise at 65 mph in 5th gear. If I towed heavy all the time I would've looked for a truck with 4.10's.
I'm happy with my 3.73 but if I ordered my truck I would've went with 4.10's. These newer transmissions run such low RPM on the highway I don't think it matters much. Plus you get 15,000 lb towing capacity vs 12,500 with 3.73's.
Install went well, didn't use any shims. When I unfolded the cover there was also a 6 ft piece of weather stripping that was not used either. Also, the river seal at each hinge is buckled up a little. I'm assuming that will eventually lay flat.
