Rumor is there is a new 6.7L I6 Cummins gas motor coming to the Ram. I guess Cummins is designing a motor that will be the same from the block down between the gas and the diesel with differences from the heads up.
I’m not sure how that will work out, but it sounds interesting.
I have a lifetime power train warranty. It just paid for my transmission rebuild. I’m waiting for the motor to need an overhaul now. But it has 135k on it and is still going strong.
I wish there was a way to turn off the MDS n my 6.4L without voiding my warranty. And I have to agree with the OP. The tranny is lacking even in the gas models. I haven’t tried the new 8 speed, but the 6 speed leaves a lot to be desired.
I’ve run either PUP or Amsoil Signature Synthetic since new. I did have an issue with stuck lifters at 44k miles, but nothing else. It is now at 133k. I do not feel it is worth the risk to save $30-40 on an oil change that might cost me an engine.
I traded in a 5.7 Hemi for my 6.4. I also had...
I pulled my travel trailer about 750 miles this weekend. The truck drove and shifted very well. I got about 8.5-9 mpg’s as well. Trailer is about 7500lbs and 32’ overall.
I just got my truck back on 7/11/2022. I have about 220 miles on it so far. It seems to be shifting well. It seems to hold the gears better with solid shifting when it needs to. I have NOT experienced the transmission “shudder” yet either.
I’m going to bring my travel trailer home tonight so...
My transmission was doing the same thing this past winter. I was thinking it could be the trans solenoid, but the dealer diagnosed the issue to be coming from the valve body. That was replaced by the dealer under warranty. That was not the fix either. The next code was low line pressure along...
I should be getting my truck back this week with a new factory reman transmission. Can I tow my travel trailer right away, or is there some sort of break in period before I should tow?
Is the new 8-speed a lot better than the old 66rfe? I have not heard much about it. I’m curious about the reliability in the longer term. We are seeing the “durability” of the 66rfe now that the 2014-2016 rams are starting to get into the 150k+ mileage range on many trucks from those years.
I still have a 2015 with 3.73’s. I with I had gotten the 4.10’s, but oh well, it’s paid for. It is also about to get a new trannny. Haha.
It pulls my 7,000lb TT fine on relatively flat terrain. I haven’t gone anywhere yet with any real grades to try it out. I’ve only had the TT for about a...
That’s funny. I was actually sitting in the waiting area at the dealership on Monday, while they were scanning the codes, and I got a call about my warranty being expired.
The warranty is through a 3rd party warranty that the dealership buys when you buy a new vehicle them. So far the warranty has been good (it covered the valve body last month), but now some real dollars will need to be shelled out. So we’ll see how they really are.
I was back into the dealership today with all sorts of fun codes tripping the check engine light. Improper gear ratio: 5th gear, Improper gear ratio: 6th gear, and something about the wrong line pressure. I just had the line pressure sensor changed last week.
The service department said my...
I just rolled over 129,000 miles on my 2015 3500 6.4L. I just had the valve body replaced, but I’m pretty sure that was due to the dealership only filling my transmission up half way when they did the tranny service. (I drove 1200 miles like that before a problem presented itself and I had to...
I just picked up my truck this afternoon. It’s sluggish, but it is shifting ok. I know it’s still in learning mode from the rebuild. We’ll see how it performs over the next couple weeks.
I’m having similar issues with my truck. The warranty inspector just came out and approved the warranty coverage for a valve body and the associated parts. I hope they dig deeper and confirm there are no other issues before they do the work.
Th dealership got back to me and said it is under warranty. They will do their thing. I guess the tech is going to do a little more digging to try to find out what caused the valve to stick.
The service advisor said my transmission needs a new valve body and that a valve is sticking. I do wonder why a valve body would go bad as well as what would cause a valve to stick though. Could it be clutch/band material?
My transmission started slipping last week as well. The dealership expects to dig into my transmission tomorrow. I hope they can fix it on the first try as well (ideally by just installing a new transmission) but we’ll just have to see.
My truck just popped up the P0871 code. We’ll see what the issue is, but it has already gone into limp mode (1st and 4th Gear only) but it would reset and drive normal after I shut off the truck and start it back up. Hopefully the lifetime warranty will cover any repairs. But I’m not holding my...
My 2015 Ram 3500 has 120k miles. It was feeling “choppy” when I would go into a curve. It was much more noticeable at lower speeds.
When I took it in for some other maintenance last month, the dealer looked into the cause and determined it was the front axle universal joints behind the wheel...
I’d be curious to see what that new HD 8-speed tranny runs for temps. It’s supposedly a sealed tranny. I just had my transmission fluid and filter changed, and the dealership didn’t mention anything about the fluid being bad or anything like that. My transmission runs about 172 degrees as well.
I found my Leer topper on Craigslist for $600. It was only about 45 minutes away. It has a couple of chips, but it was about $1600 less than a brand new topper. And it was a perfect color match. I’m so glad I got one. I actually got a travel trailer vs. a 5th wheel because I didn’t want to have...
