So, based on the fact the 5.7L spark advance timing is function of octane rating, should not mpg be improved with increase in octane rating?
Again FMCO rates the DI turbo engines based on 93 octane and not 87 for higher mpg ratings even though the engines will run on 87.
Why does FCC recommend...
On 93 octane vs 89 octane
The ford mpg ratings for direct injection turbo charged engines are all based on 93 octane and zero % ethanol.
The engine timing is adjusted for octane rating of gasoline based on vibration sensor for pinging.
So the 93 octane gasoline will get better mpg than 89...
This thread is started for Red Line Oil Products enthusists that would like to brag about and share their experiences with these products, especially motor oil.
I do not use any of the these products because of cost, but are considered by many as definitely high end boutique products.
The oil and filter at WM costs $35, it costs $25 + $10 shipping = $35 for Blackrock UOA for z 5.7L.
Do an OC on 4k miles intervals on regular basis, so break even is 8k miles.
Blackstone would have to say use the oil to 8k miles to even break even on cost.
If using Cummins 5.9L or Ram eco...
A steel cap that fits over the end of the filter, will not slip , use a 3/8"x 1 2" adapter and a long handled breaker bar.
If the filter is removed with oil in the engine, only a small volume of oil drains from the oil filter threaded connection.
If the engine oil heated to normal operating temperature above 210F and the engine is drained to a slow drip, the engine will take exactly 7 quarta with a new smaller size filter used in the the 2014 & up with the electric steering assembly.
Most shops both dealerships and fast oil change...
8HP70 , 8 speed ATF alternative to MOPAR label or ZF Lifeguard is RAVENOL, German made, green tinted to match Alabama color, found on Amozion for only $35/quart.
Know most of the regulars on this thread have the 6 speed.
The last census shows the average commuting time is 29 minutes, which places a large portion on the vehicle driving population in the servere usage category, and not the so called normal usage category and most folks still change their oil between 3000 to 3500 miles thanks to the quick OC...
Anti-wear(AW) additive vs friction modifiers (FM)
Was always confused about the difference between AW & FM and thought both to be the same, but after reading
A post by MoleKule on BITOG, #799029 , dated Oct. 18,2002, all the confusion was eliminated.
On modern detergent oil
Chevron oil has a subsidiary, ORONITE that specializes in oil detergent additives.
The ORONITE website states on the oil detergents perform the following functions,
"Prevents acids of combustion from corroding engine parts"
"Keep lubricant oxidation and thermal...

Some online research show the primary use of Boron compounds are used as anti-wear additives, but boron compounds can work as a detergent.
Found a post by Molekule on BITOG,
quote, "Depending on the synthesis and subsequent functionalization(boron compound) can be considered as anti-wear...
Always understood that Boron is a universal cleaning element found as a naturally occurring mineral that is mined from open pit mines, especially in a place called Boron, Ca home of twenty mule team borax company.
Always understood that Mo is an anti-friction additive and not a anti-wear agent...
RLK
Having your RL translucent at 8k drain indicates this product is non detergent.
Remember using PYB as a flush and draining black color after only a few miles.
Agree the oil pressure indicator could measure +/- 2 psi from actual pressure,
which equates to only ~ 4-5% error.

5w30 QSUD @500 miles after OC before being sheared down to 20 wt
Cold start up

idle oil pressure: 55 psi
After twenty miles at 65 mph
Oil temp: 210F
Oil pressure @ idle: 47 psig
Thanks for all the responses.
Backed into back flow preventer guard steel post in a small patking lot not too long ago dented rear bumper.
Wanted to remove the painted bumper and remove dent.
On a 2015 there is the electrical connector fastened to the rear bumper for a trailer.
Attempting to remove the wiring connector that plugs into the trailer connector on the truck side.
There must some type of release to allow the wiring plug to be removed?
Has anyone removed this wiring plug?
The ZF parts website states the fluid and pan with integral filter in the 8HP70 transmission should be changed between 50k to 75k miles.
Excellent 2 part, U Tube video by motor city mechanic shows the procedure in obtaining the correct ATF fluid level.
