Pulsating vibration at from 45 to 65, worst at 55mph. What could it be?

Another update... I strapped the front output shaft so it wouldn't move (driveshaft is removed). This stopped the transmission from shaking and made it clear the left rear wheel bearing is bad. I found 1/16" of play back there on Saturday. It should only have 5/1000th of inch of play...

Pulsating vibration at from 45 to 65, worst at 55mph. What could it be?

I checked the front brakes and wheel hubs today. Bolts for the wheel hubs were loose, a cotter pin for the ball joint was rubbing against the front left axle, one of the brake hardware was on backward scraping the top of the rotors, both dust shields were rubbing against the rotors, and the...

Pulsating vibration at from 45 to 65, worst at 55mph. What could it be?

I have a '02 Ram 2500 5.9L v8 4x4 with a nv4500 that has a pulsating vibration that is worst at 55 mph. The vibration feel like "vooOOOoom...pause...vooOOOoom...pause...repeat". It cycles about every 1 1/2 seconds at 55 mph. It's getting worst and I can't figure out what it is! Here's what...

Deer suicide yesterday! Need a grill!

That suck dude. I saw three deer last night driving in my '14. First time in a long time I saw deer while driving in a truck. The high pitch turbo whine in the '08 diesel scared the deer off, and with the '02... well.. I hope a deer jumps in front of it, 'cuz it will be dinner. The 'ol lady...

    What size wheel spacers?

I would say 24mm/1" spacer based on this calculator: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=275-60-20X9ET19&wheel2=35X12.5-20X9ET-4&scl=2in&fcl=1in&wcl=4in&sr=1in Take accurate measurement for better results. I was just guessing the fender values.

    No reverse lights?

In my case, the reverse switch was sticky. Replaced it and all was well.

    No reverse lights?

Looking at the 2001 Ram manual, the backup lights gets power from Fuse #7 on the fuse box on the side of the dash. It's a 10 amp fuse. Power then goes to the Neutral Switch (for A/T) or the back-up lamp switch (M/T) located on the driver side of the transmission. One of the leads is hot with...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

I made up my mind: I'm swapping out the 5.9L for a V-10 It's just a cool sounding engine. The V-10 would provide adequate performance without pouring a ton of money into like the 5.9L, or being an over complex swap like the diesel or a Mopar big block. I'm going to start on it in March or...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

BTW, The 5.9L 24v Cummins weighs in at 1150 pounds and 1500 pounds with a NV5600. The truck V-10 is 850 pounds and 1070 pounds with a NV4500. The 5.9L V8 is 650 pounds and 870 pounds with a NV4500. If there's one thing I learned about muddin', it's weigh matters and torque help.

My catalytic converter is very clogged! Can I use a cable bit to drill holes in?

Thanks! I figure as much. I really didn't want to mess up a $40 drill bit. I instead drilled a 3/8 hole in the cat to relieve the pressure. It sounds like ass, but it will get me to Alabama.

This kind of V10? :naughty: https://dashub.com/view/2004/DODGE/RAM%20SRT10/LT4629181 Or this kind? https://dashub.com/view/1999/DODGE/RAM%202500/LT4429852 I know my uncle in heaven who owned this truck would approve of me putting a V-10 in it. So, I think you're 100% right. The 5.9l...

My catalytic converter is very clogged! Can I use a cable bit to drill holes in?

My truck's cat is completely clogged. The truck won't rev over 2.5k rpm. The truck has no power what-so-ever. I need to drive the truck 100 miles on Saturday to work on it at my dad's shop. As a test, I removed the upstream o2 sensor to confirm the cats are the problem. The engine revs...

Cat removal and o2 sensor question

What you'll need to do is put two O2 bungs in the general stock location in the new pipe. Put the downstream sensor directly in the bung. For the upstream sensor, get a Dorman HELP! - Non-Foulers 42009 from the parts store. You'll get two fitting. Drill out one fitting to clear the O2...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

I hear ya! The 5.9L diesel would be the easiest option because good donor trucks are easy to find at salvage auctions. As an extra bonus, manual trucks sell for a whole lot less than autos. Just the other day I saw a 2001 3500 Cummins 2wd with 119k miles that was in a nasty roll over sell for...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

I would love to, but it costs too much. The best price I found is $1200 for the lower kit on eBay, and $1800+ everywhere else. The top end is $3500 if you want to do it right. That would blow my budget to hell and back. If I used the stock heads and cam, the engine falls on it face at 4k...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

Oh yeah! I wanted to get a 2006 SRT-10 quad cab in 2008 but the taxes and insurance would've killed me, so I bought a 2008 Ram 2500 diesel 4x4 instead. My uncle, who owned this truck before he passed, bought a new 2001 V-10 2wd. He put 870k miles on it before the head gasket blew. He also...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

I just replaced the plenum gasket and PCV valve. The forward edge of the gasket was leaking real bad. The truck burns less oil, but still burns oil like mad. It went from a quart every 150 miles to every 200 miles. It took 3 gallons to drive 1800 miles from Wyoming to Georgia. My dad...

Rebuild 5.9L v8 or swap it?

Hi, I'm new to the board. I've been struggling over the last few day with what to do with my 2002 Ram 2500 that I was gifted. it's a big red beast with a 5.9L Magnum v8 4x4 with a manual. The issue is, it's have almost no power, burning oil like crazy, and has a bad tick at 2k rpm. I'm...
