how cold are your cold starts and how do you prepare your truck

Bitter cold last night; +64 degrees F... Started right up though.... When I move back to MI I'll get a block heater: -10 there a couple days ago. Until then, I'm doing everything in my power to keep temps down.

    Advice on future buy

Still is too high for used. You should be able to find dealers pushing at least 10% off without even negotiating, depending on your location and rebates, for a new 2017. With 2018 so close, I'd bet you can do even better yet. I got my 16 Outdoorsman in early 2017 for 37k, plus tax fees etc...

    New Outdoorsman

Great truck! Picked up a leftover '16 Outdoorsman about 6 months ago. I haven't done anything to mine yet, but will go with Bilsteins myself. In the US, though not sure why. Seemed like a good package deal wise, slotting between the base trims with 44-45 4x4 and the Rebel. I believe the OP...

For those with 32 gallon tanks

That's a good point. And for it to continue for so many years is what gets me. Although I won't go out of my way to get it updated. While it'd be nice to see 600 plus highway miles to empty, I kind of like having an extra buffer. (I say that now...)

    Whoops!

I had a 2002 Camaro Z28; talk about a redneck rocket. Never got above 105 though. Undulating roads and deer can be deadly at 55, so I backed off quick. I got my 11 Hemi Outdoorsman bouncing off the governor at 106ish when I had that, but the new truck hasn't seen above 90. Haven't had the...

    4th gen 1500 tow Q

Towing weight wise it won't be an issue. But if you can't use a dolly for the van, you'll have to watch tongue and payload weights as they both add to the same max.

Alex on Autos reviews the 2017 RAM 1500

Wow that's extremely in depth. Good review. I wonder why all the magazines get slower 0-60 times, and how he tested this one? I know this truck had 3.92 and he said 6.6 seconds I believe yet every magazine I've seen is much more than that. Does Ram not provide the better towing and...

A couple times around the block.

As long as it's mechanically sound and the rust isn't really affecting (or won't) anything important it's probably ok. My first vehicle was my grandparents winter truck; while it lost weight everytime the doors closed or I hit a bump knocking off rust, it ran like a champ. Just realize rust is...

    2011 Ram 5.7 Hemi SLT 4wd 220k miles - Buy Yes/No

With that kind of mileage getting racked onto it I'd wonder when they'd find the time to service it...

    4X4 Question

Can you elaborate, I'm not seeing how that would help, as 1, the tires continue to turn while hydroplaning whether you're on the gas pedal or not, and 2, that is suggesting that a loss of traction, by spinning the wheels, is needed to regain traction? Slush is also a completely different...

    2019 RAM 1500: more scoop...

Sort of; I'm definitely in favor of CC, with either bed looking sharp to me. However the best looking truck (in production, I'd take a 50s Power Wagon...) IMO is the 2500 CC and 6.4 bed. Most likely the extra beefiness. I don't ever see myself getting a Mega cab truck, but I'm glad Ram does...

    2017 heights, models

The air suspension gives you the ability to raise the ride 2 inches above the 'regular drive' height with air suspension. The Rebel is set from the factory to be an inch higher than all other air suspension models in any mode, and also has 33s, so it should be the highest. Otherwise 2WD vehicles...

    4X4 Question

No need. 4WD doesn't matter if you're hydroplaning, and not necessary if you're not. Yeah it's probably enough traction loss to keep your transfer case from binding, but if you're losing traction in 2WD in wet conditions that's an error on the right foot. Offroad and snow/ice is when it's...

How solid is the Rebel (offroading)?

Take it to the dealer. It should still be under warranty. But I'll follow up with this; you'll probably have issues with them actually doing the work if you say what you said here. I don't think 85 mph is legal anywhere except tracks and drag strips. it's an offroad package with upgraded wheels...

    Oil Change at Dealership?

I'm doing my first two (or 4? Some are free with the truck when bought new) through the stealership. After that I'll be doing my own. But if you have to take it somewhere, the dealership would probably be better if something was to come up warranty wise, as opposed to the quik e change type shops.

How do you use/utilize 4WD in your Ram?

After all this discussion, I found about 4 inches of standing water following most of the day rain and got everything nice and wet, then stopped. "Brake boosted" to around 2.5k RPMs, then let off the brake while putting the right foot to the floor. I got a little traction control love at around...

How do you use/utilize 4WD in your Ram?

^Kind of an exageration... To Smurf, I saw you live in Canada, correct? After living in Michigan for most of my life, but most of the last 6 years in Florida sprinkled with time in TX and VA, there are several conclusions that can be made. Roads that aren't destroyed by salt and anti snow antics...

FCA resumes Ram 1500 diesel output

It's fairly well documented that the earth is warming. Whether that's part of the cycle or our fault doesn't matter. My point is that the epa is clawing for power, money, and relevance and is gutting the energy industry and affecting the consumer market in its efforts to set ridiculous...

FCA resumes Ram 1500 diesel output

Probably best to let others bring their trucks in first... If I had an EcoDiesel, I would do my best to never let the dealer into the computer once this is all figured out... While I can appreciate the goal, at least in name, (environmental protection part anyway) of the epa, they are trying...

    Performance Upgrades

K&N filters/intakes won't let in too much air, they just debatably let in more and/or more particulates, (tons of articles and threads out there, you'll have to make your own decision) and don't muffle as much engine sound. I had the K&N intake on my former 11 Outdoorsman with no issues for...

How do you use/utilize 4WD in your Ram?

This. The only time I spin the tires is intentionally, or after driving my 1987 RV jumping right into the truck... To say there's a difference in throttle and power from that old rig to the Hemi is an understatement. But it's a very tame beast when you keep the right foot in check. Here in...

I think I messed up and didn't know the 4x4 sat higher than the 2 wheel drive

My wife loves the ride height, and no issue with entry and she's about 5 feet tall wearing shoes and socks. She uses the factory solution...:happy107:

New Ram owner here... 2013 1500 Outdoorsman...

Nice truck! Laramie's are nice, but they have a bit too much chrome for my taste, and while it's debatable, I specifically bought an Outdoorsman for the part time transfer case vs the auto one because it's better for me.

'14 Ram Thoughts after a week of ownership

Makes sense then. Probably had bigger rims with less tire as well which would tighten up the feel even. https://www.google.com/amp/www.mlive.com/articles/8075634/2013_dodge_ram_features_nextee.amp According to this article, power steering gets 1.8% (:roflsquared: increase in fuel economy...

'14 Ram Thoughts after a week of ownership

What trim do you have? I had an 05 Dakota ST quad cab with the 4.7 V8, and compared to my previous 11 Outdoorsman, and especially my current 16 Outdoorsman, the Dakota was definitely more of the marshmallow, although the Rams are/were much more comfortable as well as confident to drive IMO. I...
