    6.4 hemi lifter issues

Thanks. I think it was the cylinder deactivation that was causing the problem on my half ton. I don’t know if the 6.4 or 5.7 in the heavy duties had the cylinder deactivation but I really don’t like the system in any truck. I had all work done at the dealership on my half ton and was religious...

    6.4 hemi lifter issues

I bought a brand new 2018 ram with the 5.7. 38 thousand miles later and the hemi was on its way out. My next truck will not be new.

    6.4 hemi lifter issues

I thought about looking at another diesel. I had a 6.7 power stroke and we still have a 5.9 Cummins and 7.3 power stroke in the family. I’d much rather have a gas truck these days. My truck will only see about 3-5k miles a year. With the cost of maintenance, fuel prices and the amount of miles...

    6.4 hemi lifter issues

It’s been a couple years since I posted. I sold my ram when the dealer wouldn’t address my lifter issues. I’m in another half ton but am looking at getting a 3/4 ton. I loved my ram until it started having issues. I wanted to ask if the 6.4 had the same cam and lifter failures as my 5.7 did...

New truck and new to the forum.

Just updating this thread. The dealer said they couldn’t reproduce the noise I heard and had recorded on video. The truck now as 31700 miles and I just replaced the factory tires with hankook dynapro at2. The truck is back in the shop today with tapping and rough idle. Hopefully they actually...

    Softtopper

I’ve had trifolds. They are ok and easy to put on and take off but I haul a lot and they get in the way. We were talking about the softopper which is kind of a hybrid I guess. It’s like a cap but it folds Down giving access to the entire bed and can keep large items out if the weather not just...

    Softtopper

sometimes I wish I had the ram box’s. I wouldn’t have to put everything under my seat in my truck.

    Softtopper

I’ll probably stick with black since my door handles are black. I’ll have to wait a couple months now. I just had to buy new tires. I went with hankook dynapro at2’s so we will see how this new tire works out. The stock set was low and they were bad enough i was loosing traction in light rain.

    Softtopper

I’m most likely going to pick up a softopper some time this summer. Thanks for all the info and reviews guys. Now I just have to decide what color goes best with a white quad cab ram. Black or tan?

thanks, I just opened the thread you posted and will start reading it

    Softtopper

thanks, that’s a lot of useful information. If it holds up well for a few years I’d be happy. I could probably buy 2-3 of those softoppers for the price of a Fiberglas cap. I called about aluminum around here and they were about 1500 with fiberglass being around 2k I believe. I like the...

    Softtopper

Crash68, yes that’s exactly what I was looking at. averageguy, I am tempted to get a fiberglass or aluminum cap and trailer but that is very expensive. I guess I could Just continue to save up

    Softtopper

Thanks TomB 1269. That’s what I was looking for. There’s not a ton online about them. I’d go with a regular cap but they are generally pretty expensive

    Softtopper

Thanks I’m looking for the softopper, it’s like a cap But canvas. I was gonna get another tonneau cover but I use the bed quite a bit for large items and firewood. I’d also like to Put my dogs kennel back there for hunting season. There’s just not enough room in a quad cab once his kennel is in...

    Softtopper

I see a few of you have a softopper. How do you like it? Does it keep everything in the bed dry? Would you recommend it? I have a white quad cab and am thinking about ordering one this summer. TIA.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

I just got back from picking my truck up. They said everything sounded normal and my lifters do make noise but not an excessive amount or for a prolonged period of time. I talked to a tech that listened to the truck when they started it this morning and showed him the video I took. He said it...

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

Yes it was very similar to that, it lasted about 1 minute the first time and about 20 seconds the second time but it isn’t consistent.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

Your right, I can’t be 100 percent sure what it is until they tear into it. And I don’t know what caused it to fail yet but I will I update the post when I find out. I’m supposed to take it in Tuesday.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

My father in law bought two brand new Tacoma’s, one in 2014 and one in 2018. Both went back to the dealer within the first year for issues he had with his truck. I believe everyone’s quality control is lacking and I know every brand has their own problems but I can no longer say my truck is more...

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

I thought failed lifters were a thing of the past and I’m very surprised this happened to my truck. The mechanic didn’t hesitate when he said failed lifter and that’s definitely what it sounds like. Hopefully it’s something else but I doubt it. I’ve maintained this truck religiously and talked...

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

Thanks, I’m hoping they aren’t back ordered right now if they don’t give me a car. I wish I could get a truck as a loaner since mine will be out of service. I heat with wood so this is the time of year I need it the most. Lots of wood being moved and split and trees to be cut up.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

I’ve seen people add them to YouTube them post them on the forum but I don’t have a YouTube channel and don’t want to make one at the moment but I might eventually. Even the head mechanic at the dealership agreed to it Being a lifter but if I make a YouTube channel I’ll post my video.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

Interval is every 5k miles and oil and filter are factory. Only 24k miles on the truck and I’m not gonna do anything to void the warranty for as long as possible.

Bad lifter To end a bad summer

I’ve read a lot on here about bad lifters and other noises everyone’s truck makes but to top off a bad summer I end up with a bad lifter in my truck. I thought this issue was addressed by now. I only have 24,500 miles on my truck and it’s been exclusively maintained by the dealer. I took a...

New truck and new to the forum.

24,500 miles on my truck now. Oil was just changed at 24007 miles and a new air filter installed. Everything looked good when I had the oil changed at the dealership. Started the truck up yesterday and wouldn’t you know it, I have a bad lifter. I thought this problem Was addressed by now and...
