I have a 2006 Ram 1500 hemi. I suspect it’s having transmission problems. Any common issues and what are the symptoms?
I believe it’s a 5speed Automatic Mercedes transmission?
The 5 speed 3rd gen Ram transmission is the 545RFE unit, built at the Dodge Kokomo, Indiana transmission shop.
The 5-speed auto found in the LX platform cars is the NAG1, aka the 5G-Tronic W5A580 Mercedes Benz unit. I don't believe they built the car 5 speed in Kokomo but I could be wrong.
@MADDOG
My 06 Ram is banging/clunking at highway speed. I think it may be trying to go into 2 gears simultaneously for an instant or banging the lockup converter real hard. After it’s warmed up
It’s a real serious clunk/bang. You can really feel it.
Never a trouble code.
Rattle in gear 35mph on jack stands about 3rd or 4th gear no throttle after running 60mph. No rattle in park at idle or rpm. Rattlegoes away in gear at 60mph.
