Hello all, glad to join the group.
I have a 2008 ram 1500 4x4 with the g238 6 speed.
Was wondering if anyone had leads on a used Trans or info on if a g56 would work on this truck. Thanks!

G56 won’t likely fit without a fair amount of work…and the ratios are very different. Think of it as more of a 5-speed with a crawler gear. I have one of each trans in my trucks (‘08 1500, ‘16 2500) and the G238 is a lot more fun to drive

For new/rebuild g238’s give Midwest transmission a call…they seem to have parts for rebuilds and sometimes whole transmissions.

What’s wrong with your g238? Just had my original one rebuilt at 420k miles because it was getting loud.

Trans is getting loud and two synchronizers are bad. No replace parts available, Midwest said they couldn't help, jasper as well due to no parts.

Where are you located? Just had my G238 rebuilt at a shop in Modesto a couple months ago. Actually they sent it out to a shop they work with for full rebuilds. So far have about 5k on rebuild with no issues…shop name is A&G transmission in Modesto, CA

No idea…trans was NLA from Chrysler and since it was covered under LPT warranty, dealer found this local shop to have it rebuilt. I had to give up LPT warranty on the trans itself since it is now an “aftermarket” rebuild, but the shop seems to be quite reputable and gave a 2 yr warranty on the trans rebuild.

Were you running +4 and what was your drain interval?

Not sure if this question was for me…but I’ve always run Redline c+ atf with 50k change intervals. Pretty cheap even with the fancy oil bc trans only takes around 2 qts (4 qts between trans & transfer case).
