I am just trying to figure out why my problem and solution works. On my 2016 2500 6.4 last February my heater worked very little. Warm air, fan working, dash guage reading 205. I took it to my dealer. They back flushed it and it worked for 3 days. After reading this forum a fellow said put it on a 30 degree slat for 5 min. at 3000 rpms. I did and it worked great the rest of the winter (Feb - April).
Here I am going into winter again and I again have warm air. Guage showing 205. I got home and did nothing except drive it out to my front yard and put it again on a 30 degree slant at 3000 rpms for 5 min. Now I cannot hold my hand on the vent for very long because the air is so hot. Hopefully this temp fix works until April again. Why or how does this work ? What is causing the issue to start with ?

Sounds like you have (had) air trapped in the heater core.
