Hey guys, I’m just trying to get some input and perspective from people who know rams. I’ve never owned one before but I’m currently really close to buying a 2018 ram harvest edition. It has 70k miles on with no reported issues so far. My question is at 30k asking price would this truck be a sound investment? It’s super clean and I’d love to drive it to at least 200k if I purchase it but I also don’t want to be paying for repairs all the time. Any input/opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

@ecwells06 Welcoem to RamForum. I've moved your thread into the 4th Gen section, and out of Other Vehicle since you're discussing a Ram truck.

I understand that, I guess what I should have asked is how reliable are they after 100k

Truck prices are crazy! I paid 33, new back in 2017.

Sounds like you know you'll likely need new control arms, brakes, rotors and shocks sometime soon. Likely with any vehicle approaching 100k. You're in KS so rust should not be an issue but, where did the truck live?

As far as particulars for the Ram 5.7, read up on the "tic" and make sure the motor is nice and quiet. New cams and lifters might be in your near future if the motor is ticking away.

Pretty reliable truck IMO if it's cared for... like any other car. Good luck.

Check the radio. Seriously, if it has the 8.4 radio check it for delamination. The 2018 8.4 radios were problematic with bad screens. It’s a $400 repair. The 5.7 has the manifold gasket and cam tick to check for and the 3.6 has the oil cooler leak. Both engines are pretty reliable but keep in mind at 100k major maintenance is due.
