Decided to start a new thread with proper title so easy find for those looking.

For those who don't know me, I've been looking into headers for the Ram for quite some time now. For my build and purposes all of my research lead to the original MP 1 5/8" headers being the best header I could get for max efficiency on a stock longblock with bolt-ons. Those MP headers are still available, but 1500.00 USD and mild steel, although they are triple nickle plated. Still a hard pill to swallow if there's something just as good for a fraction of the price.

My definition of max efficiency;

Increase in Efficiency where every mod increases performance while also increasing fuel economy and towing capability. I know, 99% will tell you it's not possible, well it is, just most don't take the time to figure it out and just go with the crowd most of the time.....

On to the headers. I got mine from this vendor https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Not listed as DNA but they are DNA headers, same as several vendors on ebay and you will clearly be able to tell by the pics because they are identical. Mine were 195.00 free shipping at the time.

I had looked at ever header available, and companies just don't make a practical header any more for anything other than 1/4 mile drag racing. 90% had wrong flange all together, too large pipe diam and most mild steel, which I will never buy because they just won't last up north in the climate around here.

I will say that Pace setter 1 3/4" ceramic coated were prob my next best choice. If they made that header in 1 5/8" and SS I would have bought them years ago.

So it was very fortunate when I crossed paths with another forum member, Max1329 who was already running these DNA headers, although he had got them from another vendor and his is 2WD.

Always appreciate when you can get first had info from a reliable source! just the fact that he noticed an immediate ease of low end accel told me TQ increase where you want it, which is exactly what they should do, being the correct cross section.

I emailed DNA, but they couldn't confirm whether they would fit 4x4, so a month ago I finally decided to be the guinea pig.

When the headers showed up they didn't disappoint. Expectations were actually high, even though only a 200.00 set of headers because pics and info looked so good online, And, because I knew someone who had been running them for some time with zero issues and loving them!

clp pics over all, including the original 1 5/8" MP headers for comparo.....

Construction;

3/8" mild steel flange. 100% proper square port with practically perfect match to head. 1 5/8" 16 gauge 304 SS pipes, run through flange design, tig welded on the outside of flange top and bottom, then continuous welded inside flange. Fully welded collector inside and out. These headers have 3" collector, but come with 2 1/2" adapters for people who don't want to lose tq through a 3" midpipe.

Not 100% mandrel bends and some sharper bends than I would like to see, but this is not a race application. Those sharper 90% bends = more tq, which i have no issue with.

BTW, I showed the worst bends in those last pics.

Port match and flange accuracy;

The flange matches the head and port as perfectly as I could ever imagine.

all bolts wind in with zero issues and gasket is made slightly larger than factory gasket. about 3/16" larger than port, and that's just about exactly what the weld beads end up being, so a near perfect port entrance which is difficult to find, even in the most expensive headers.

Confirmed fit on my 04 Ram 1500 5.7l Hemi Automatic with zero modifications so far.

I can run my bare finger in every port and smooth, no weld splatter to clean up or rough edges and port matching or anything to do, which is amazing to me. (every set of headers I've had I've always had to improve, no matter who built them. (mass produced ones anyway)

Next step is figuring out **** locations and getting them bolted on for good.

My biggest disappointment so far, I ordered the MP 2 1/2" SS high flow catted midpipe, the only part # still available that said 04 only, and it comes and ends up being an 03 with 2 02 sensor bungs front one side only and one at rear merge. So 500.00 plus taxes and I'm going to have to do some modding, but I think it will still work out fine.

Updates to come......

Man I have been looking for a set of long tube headers that will work on my 04. Just wondering if they will fit my 2WD.

Wow these look really nice. If the flanges are just nickel-plated mild steel, what's the best way to prevent rust/corrosion?

By looking at the headers in the OP's pics, they look like the pair of long tubes that are on my truck. I have a
2004 DR - QC - 5.7 - 2WD and the headers I have on mine were ordered for a 4WD truck. Mine are the PaceSetter 70-2211

How do the oxygen sensors mount? Can the existing cats just be cut off and reinstalled with the new exhaust system?

Sorry for the crazy Late response!

You have to weld in o2 bungs as there are none provided with header kit.

I welded mine into the adapters that go from 3" down to 2 1/2" to match my midpipe.

Really glad I took the time to figure out what was right for me before stepping forward.

Before headers and exhaust you could feel the under gearing from going to the larger 20" wheel combo, albeit mostly at part throttle positions.

After headers and exhaust there is enough added low end TQ that the under gearing is no longer noticeable.

Truck has gained an honest 2 mpg since exhaust with no other change.

Keep in mind, it lost about 1.5 average mpg after 20" wheel swap, so over all up about .5 better then it's ever been.

when the 4:10's go in I would expect it to jump another cpl still, not to mention EL fan and under drive pulley.

Wish I would have Gtec'd it before swap. Definitely a big improvement seat of the pants, but hard #'s would have been nice for verification.
