No crank no start

Hello. New to this forum. My neighbor has a 2008 with a 4.7. The other day while he was driving the truck just shut off on him. Tried to restart but no crank no start. Has power to dash and such. Battery, alternator and starter are all good. Tried getting codes by turning key 3xs but only said done after a few moments. Hooked up to obd2 reader and said connection error. Was wondering if could be the wcm. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I was having a similar problem with a 2004 Hemi, when driving the whole truck would shut off but I would loose complete power. I traced it to the lead negative terminal connection being cracked. I switched my negative connection to a brass fitting and so far its been working much better. The difference is I had no power to anything.
