Ok so had my new trans put in and the shifter was fine before. Was fine after too for about a week. Now it goes from Park to drive normally, but once in gear I can move the shifter around about an inch or so.

Bad bushings?
Adjustment at trans needed?

Any help is appreciated. Don’t want to just leave it even though everything is working fine otherwise. It can’t be good if it is not supposed to do it.

It's all electronic control from shifter to trans so there isn't anything mechanical to adjust. It's has to be something at the shifter itself, try pulling the cover and seeing if anything looks loose....

I believe the console shifter is cable operated so you might check the cable routing to make sure it hasn't come loose from a clamp. That would make it tight one way (pulling) and loose the other (pushing)....

Well I might have found the culprit. Shifter cable bushing on the trans.

Bought a kit at bushingfix.com and I will see how it goes.
