I own a 2014 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 5.7 with the short bed. I believe it's 5 ft 6 in. Plz correct
me if I am wrong.

I am looking at a 2016 Polaris RZR stock and one article said it CAN be loaded into the bed of a
normal truck, and had even been loaded into a smaller pickup I imagine like a Colorado or Dakota.

I'd like to save the cost of a trailer purchase, registration and storing.

I've looked at Polaris spec site and the wheelbase says 77 inches.

I dono about that. Im sure it's wider than the box sides and is definately longer. My sportsman highlifter sticks out if my 6,'4 box about 8-10 inches. And barely fits between the wheel wells. There are companites making racks for Trucks to haul them without a trailer though. If you're unsure you can always go to Polaris website and look up the specs if your ride. They usually tell you length width and height.

https://www.ramptek.com/shop they're not cheap but sometimes cheaper than a trailer, and you can still haul a trailer if you wanted ro with the rack on.

How often do you plan on hauling it? If not often, you can rent a trailer when needed, $25 last time I rented one from uhaul.
Other places rent them also.

The 2016 RZRs appear to be 8.75' long, gonna' need a 8' bed. And about 50 inches wide so wheel wells going to be problematic.

Could get a Harbor Freight trailer for about $500, some fold for storage. 4x8 model about 269 pounds, carries 1100 pounds, I have leaned it up against the garage wall.

No shot. Find a buddy's trailer to borrow.

When I picked up my 09 back in the day, I couldn't close the gate on my 8' trailer.

A standard 800 RZR with stock sized tires will just squeak into the bed width wise and will sit on the edge of the tailgate on the 6.4 bed and you'd have to ratchet strap it to the bed to keep it from slipping off, but it's REALLY tight to the point that it isn't worth it unless you're in an extreme emergency. You must back it in. If you pull it in forward the back tires will hang off the tailgate due to the front bumper. I do not recommend it. You'll damage the bed sides, the tailgate, the RZR, or both. Seen it done unfortunately. Some folks do try to do it though.

An 800 XP with the wider suspension is a no go. It won't come anywhere close to fitting. A 800, 900, or 1000 XP... get a trailer. No chance of it fitting.

Thanks to all the replies. I was avoiding the extra expense of the trailer and
registration etc but I see the wise thing to do is follow one of the above suggestions.

The advantage of a tilt trailer about the right size for the machine also ....is easier loading and no separate ramps to fuss with, bend or lose. And the ability to tow behind an SUV or even a car, if you ever needed to. And room to grow if you get a bigger machine ....or want to haul 2x ATV's (transversely)...if you ever needed to. Lot of convenience with a small trailer incl homeowner things. But yeah, extra expense as you said.

Hopefully you live in an area you can safely store it. Something in the front of the trailer to avoid rock chips on cargo is nice too...

Like @Racer9 posted above, just rent a trailer from Uhaul or even Home Depot....short money and you'll save your bed from the damage you may cause trying to squeeze it in.

Our local hardware store rents trailers too. $25/24hrs. Once yer in their computer, you can pretty much call as yer driving there, and arrange the rental on the phone in about 3 minutes ...then just back up to the trailer and go. Worth checking something like that too

Honestly, a small used trailer isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things. I picked up my 5x12 trailer brand new for $650 from a well known local trailer builder. Prior to that for my 4 seater 1000XP I had a 6x14 that I paid just under $1k for new. I sold it to a friend for $650. There are deals out there if you look for them. Much better than worrying about breaking a ramp, the RZR, or the truck with trying to load and unload.
