Will this truck and trailer be a good combo?

Looking to purchase a gooseneck small living quarters horse trailer. From what I can tell my towing capacity is around 12000lbs. 2018 2500 gaser 6.4l crew cab 4x4 6.6'bed. The trailer holds 3 horses but I would more often only haul 2. If I'm mindful of how much junk I load in my trailer and truck so not to approach the trailers 14000GVWR, could this trailer work?
Pics of said trsiler and truck weight ratings...

What rear gears does the truck have? If 3.73's then I think max towing is about 12,500. If 4.10's then its around 15,600lbs.

I'm not sure about the legalities of having a GVWR of 14,000 but only loading it to 12,000 but aside from that I don't see any issues. I have towed a 9300lb TT with mine with no problem at all. I have 4.10's. People have said they feel 11,000-12,000 is about the limits for how comfortable they would feel with the 6.4 but I'm sure others will chime in that have been close to max limits

You can enter your VIN information at this link to get actual payload capacity

And enter your VIN here to get build sheet. https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/vin-lookup.html

Will offer that my friend had the 8581 trailer, 4 horse variant, but generally took 2 horses. They had a Ford 2500 and really struggled weight wise because the geometry of the trailer axles so far back put a lot of weight on the pin. They traded up to a Ram 3500 dually.

Found this in the manual, a gooseneck with a 2500 says 20k lbs, so confused now!

That doesn't really mean anything....That isn't specific to the truck you have.

Take a look at the link and it will tell you what you need to check. Then you can find what your truck is rated at without guessing. Then you can figure the math out, what the actual pin/hitch weights will be and how much the horses and gear will weigh. Then check to see if you'll be hit max weights or not. Best way is to find a CAT scales and get it all down.

per the nameplate, the pin weight maxes out at 1832 lbs. 14K - 12168 (GVWR - the sum of the GAWRs).
Running the trailer loaded across the CAT scales is always a good idea.

I would get the trailer weighed as others have said. If the living quarters are finished weights can vary quite a bit. What is the short wall length on the trailer?

You would need to know the weight of the trailer, the weight of your horses, and an approximate weight of what you want to pack into the trailer/truck. If you can gather that information you'll know where you're at.

I know guys who run living quarter horse trailers behind 2500s and don't have issues. I wouldn't personally suggest it for most people as there's not really any margin for error. If I were looking into doing it myself, I'd strongly consider a 3500 with either the 6.4 or a CTD.
