Going to pick my dad's RV up today. Has about a 920 lb tongue weight so it'll sit the truck down! I don't have the weight distribution kit (in my dad's truck which is at the dealer) so I can't adjust at all for the trailer weight.

That being said last year without the WD it sat the truck down 3". That was with 30 psi in the bags. Think 40 is going to make one blow? In the manual it says 50-100 for motor home applications so I have to imagine they can handle 40 psi.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Joe

The airlift 1000's are rated at 35 psi max.
The airlift 5000's are rated higher.

Which one do you have?

I have the 1000 but yes I know they're rated at 35 psi for our trucks. In the airlift 1000 manual it says for motor home applications they are rated at 50-100. They don't use the same manual for the 5000 series so I know they aren't taking about those

I would guess that not all airlift 1000 bags are created equal. Your bags are designed for your truck not a motorhome that being said they might beable to handle the 15% increase I would bet they engineer atleast 10% if not 20% over into there bags. tuff call.

If you know they are rated at 35 lbs for our trucks,,, eh,,, I'd say anything more than 35 would be 'at your own risk',,,

For they can't handle it than I'll have to buy some 5000 series bags. Oh darn ;) haha

I just spoke with Airlift and they said 40 will be fine. I asked what burst pressure is and he said it varies by application but in most 1000 systems it's 150 psi. Good info to know!

If you load them with 40 psi empty, then put a trailer on... then hit a bump you might hit 150psi spike anyway.. not sustained tho

Well I made it! I'm not sure how much of a difference there was between 30 and 40 lbs. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow of what it looked like with 30 lbs. Weight distribution would have been nice though! It was a tad tongue heavy :) The truck had TONS of power to tow. The trailer was about 7000 lbs. I averaged 25 L/100 kms (9.4 mpg US). This included 15-20 kms of 105 km/h (65 mph) and the rest was 90 km/h (55 mph) on both flat land and some nasty hills!

Nice. Mine has plenty of power as well on my last mountain tow, only thing that suffers is the mileage.

Looks good! I will be towing with mine this weekend coming up, 6500# camper with about 800# tongue weight. I have the zone 5" coils in the rear and Boss Air bags and a WD hitch.

The 1000's have a higher psi rating for motorhomes because the coil spring is completely different. Motorhomes have a larger coil thickness and the rings are closer together, giving less chance of the air bag forcing it's way out of the coil spring.

If you tried to run 80psi in the bag in a 1500 coil spring it will force its way out of the spring, causing the bag to pop.

Yes burst pressure is 150, but there are many other things that come into play. I am glad the bag worked for you at 40psi, but I would definitely try to stay under 35psi.

Oh wow thanks for the reply! Yes I only wanted the extra bit of psi as I didn't have my weight distribution hitch/bars with me. I needed all the air I could to help with the heavy tongue weight! Lol

Normally I wouldn't even go to 35 psi
