2023 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio

Thanks so much for this info! Yeah my loaded trailer right now is ~6,500 lbs. I'd prob try to track down a 3.92 axle ratio. Yup def have a WDH it's a Blue Ox Track Pro rated for 800-1k tongue weight. What's your max tow rarting on that 3.21 Eco Diesel?

@HuskerRam you've got the 2022 Ram 1500 - 3.0 EcoDiesel! That's exactly one of the trucks I am very very close to considering here! How do you personally feel that truck would do at towing 6,500 to 6,800 lbs? I notice the max pull on those is 9,600.

Newbie question here lol and from OP, how do you know what gear your engine is in at any moment?

Ok so another strong advocate to just step up from the 1500 to the 2500 here it seems! Yeah that's exactly what I was afraid of 35mph around mountains having the thing screaming to get up hills. Was the 2500 you stepped up to a Diesel reg gas?

2023 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio

Yes that's my exact situation!! Basically just thinking to trade for the 3.92. I don't think I'm ready for the 2500 yet thats just a beast of a truck lol. plus I tow like once a month maybe so the rest of time is daily driver. Only other thing I was considering is a 2020 year or later EcoDiesel...

Ah I was considering the EcoDiesel!!! Not a good move for towing 6,500 lbs you think? Any chance the later more recent ones got better after 2020 when they redid the engine?

2023 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio

Thanks for the thoughts! Yeah my Uncle tows a 27ft ~7,200 lb trailer with a Ford 250 Diesel and says it's a breeze. I usually go somewhere for 1-2 months so my thought on trying the 1500 was that sometimes 30 to 60 days in a row I'm not towing so I was trying to get the 17/21 mpg as a daily...

2023 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio

That was my next question! When and how to use tow/haul mode. I started by having it on 100% of the time at first but then a guy at the dealership told me I really only need it when climbing step hills. So toward ther end of a 1,000 mile pull I started trying that, just being in tow/haul mode to...

No water weight whatsoever I empty all tanks before I pull. I've only pulled from TX to GA so far and planning/ hoping to head to NC, CO, and OR. I do leave the propane tanks on the trailer when I pull, should I take those off the trailer and put in truck bed? As long as I have Payload available...

the trailer is exactly 5,368 UVW, I think I have ~1000 lb worth of stuff in the trailer, and yeah max GVWR is 6995. I am usuing a Blue Ox WDH rated for 800-1000 lb toungue weight. I estimate my tongue weight is ~900 lb but I just bought a etrailer tongue weight scale I'm going to find out for sure.

Thanks for this! Yeah concern in going over 57mph is/was definitely rpm's. So sounds like EcoDiesel may have been the way for me to go. Question then why do people go for the 3.92 rear axle ratio?

2023 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio

Just replied to @crash68 explaining the whole situation. This is my first truck! Yeah just the RPM's getting in the 3500/ 4000 zone but after reading some of these replies seems totally normal. I towed a jet ski and a 3500lb camper before this with a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 with 6200 tow...
