The PCM now controls the alternator field in more modern vehicles.
Most times, the field has power and then the PCM modulates the ground to energize.
Like with fuel injectors and ignition coils, if the PCM receives a direct power 'spike' it can blow the circuit 'driver' within the PCM and would...
What is hiding under all of that tape? Is there a bolt flange on one end and a partially installed universal on the other?
Ideally, and just good overall practice, is to make some sort of "witness mark" so that you can even get the bolt flange back onto the rear axle the same way it came off...
Most DMM (digital multi meter) have an amp feature (10 amp max) where you have to select it on the dial and will probably need to move the red wire to another input.

I don't have farcebook anymore because Mark demands I upload a scan copy of my govt issue ID after they falsely accused me of spamming
Anything on this list is bingo...
...even blue bottle from Walmart
Yes, it is more expensive than Mercon but it works correctly and all the others (including the universal the auto parts kids tells you) might not work too long.

I mean, can I find out what the various recalls were to my used vehicle and who performed the recall and when?
