Hey folks, going through correction on my 14' 1500 and wondering how many coats of clear the factory uses. I don't have a fancy thickness gauge and I can't seem to pull up anything definitive via search. I don't want to get too aggressive if they skimp or in general the coats are soft.

Anyone know? Thanks!

Based on looking at my 2017 with an eyeball micrometer and how easily the damn thing marks... One coat or less. Awful paint quality.

2 pass clear usually 1.8 to 2.2 mils. Horizontals are higher verticals possibly lower. If you say awful paint quality you may be looking at orange peel. Less orange peel does not necessarily translate into better paint quality. Paint appearance yes.

Ram actually has pretty good paint quality. You'll get responses here from guys who just bash anything because for whatever reason they're not happy with there truck. Is it vette clear? no definitely not but it's far from terrible which would be many cars that dont have a clear coat! I detail so I've touched many many paints and 3rd and 4th gen rams have good paint. The clear is fairly soft which makes for pretty quick work of paint correcting, if your careful you'll be fine with a med cutting pad and compound, but of course start with the least aggressive and work your way into whatever you have to. Keep a good light on it, dont get it to hot and watch your work, you'll be fine. Here's my 3rd gen being corrected. I've done 3 rams now, one being PXR 4th gen and it went from swirl city to beautiful, still good reads on the gaugedff019d1b090381456af6870027d9e9c.jpga27c8d781660c62cb6601dd60d3fc310.jpgb74111cf0835820cf1728e036c64873a.jpg
