Silly question - has anyone ever relocated the OEM 7/4-pin combo plug to the left-hand side of the license plate on the bumper (on a 2019)? All of the trailers I haul have their wiring harnesses/plugs on the left-hand side of the trailer, and I find that I have to really stretch them to get to the plugs on my 2500. I see where you can by extension cables for both the 7- and 4-pin connectors, but it's just one more thing to come undone and/or get tangled up, plus I think it'd look like heck hanging back there. Seems like such a simple thing for FCA/Dodge to locate those plugs on the left in the first place (all of the other rigs I've ever owned have them on the left/driver's side) - not sure why they decided to mount them on the right.

I could try to just jump in and relocate them myself, but I wanted to check first to see if anyone had any experience with it. Another concern - is there a plug blank that I can purchase that I can put in the hole where the plugs used to be once I relocate them?

If the cables are on the short side you might end up in a situation where a hard right turn could unplug them. I always arrange wires to cross in the same axis as the trailer ball, so there’s no tugging of the cable or drooping as the rig turns.

Most of the time I have a padlock on the coupler and the cable run through the lock shackle. Carabiners or zip ties work too.

Exactly opposite the issue in my case, hard left turns stretch the cables, since the plug on the truck is on the right side of the license plate. I've never had them come unplugged yet, I just have to stretch them more than I'm comfortable doing when I plug them in. If the plugs on the truck were on the opposite (left hand/driver's) side of the plate, they would be on the same axis as both of my trailer leads, and I don't think I'd have the issue. If memory serves, I don't recall ever having had a rig with the plugs on the right-hand/passenger side of the license plate, and my other rig that I tow with has the plugs on the left/driver's side. It just seems to be an unusual setup - makes me think that maybe it was a mistake at the factory when it was installed.

I'll likely take a closer look underneath the bumper this weekend to see what it would take to relocate it to the driver's side. In the meantime, if anyone has already had to do this particular mod, I would most definitely benefit from your experience (and hopefully prevent any heartache this weekend).

I have the same problem with mine! Annoying. My main trailer's wires come out the left side of the tongue.

I've towed 10 different trailers with my 2020 3500 dually. All reached just fine to the trailer plug in.

You need a longer wire if your so tight that being on one side or the other makes it too tight.
