I have a 2015 3500 Hemi 6.4L DRW 4x4 with 3,73 that I want to get regeared to 4.56 / 4.88. The estimates I have received are $4500-$5000 + tax. Estimates are pretty much 50% for parts, 50% for labor. Is this really what the price is nowadays?

Does anyone have any recommendations for shops in the North Georgia area?

Thanks.

I did my gears going on 2 years ago...I spent about 1500 for 5.13's (AAM and Yukon in the front) with bearing/rebuild kits. I ended up paying a shop to do the front after I struggled to complete the rear, and I believe they charged me 1700 just for the front and to double check my work in the rear.

I had always heard that you can expect to pay roughly 3-4k to regear any particular 4x4 vehicle, but I'd say anything over 5k is a bit of a rip.

Crazy prices for regearing is the only thing keeping me from going to a larger tire. Anything above 35” dictates a higher ratio. Sucks RAM doesn’t offer a selection of ratios from the factory…

Seems high to me. I think somewhere in the 1500 range per axle is what it should cost. Some have gotten both axles done for 2k, depending on what all is being done.

If your having a basic gear swap done, using the OEM carriers, 5k seems like a lot to me.

I wish I could have found a 4.10 geared truck locally, back when I got my truck in December of 16, the 4.10s were only a $100 option or something minimal like that. Crazy stuff to have to pay 4k plus after the fact.

My 3.73s are fine for what I do with my truck and I don't need the 10s, but my next HD will have the 4.10s (or steeper if available) even with the 8 speed trans.

I have been really happy with the 3.73 in the truck, but we got a toyhauler and added a transfer tank to the bed. Loaded up it is 11K. I have not gone up any real grades yet, but even on the small ones, unless I get a running start, it seems to struggle and on a few occasions it drops to 35 mph for the duration of the climb. The truck only has 56K miles so I don't want to trade. Even even I have to pay the $4500, I am still ahead of the bath I would take on a new truck.

Same truck and gears and I pull an 11K 5th wheel. You're exactly right - if I can keep the speed over 40 and hold 2nd it has all the power I need. The problem is all at the low end with the mile gap between first and second. Choices are letting the truck slam back and forth between the two gears or just stick it in first and wind out the engine at 4500rpms going 30.

I looked into re-gearing a few years ago and I think it was around $2500 for both axles at a good driveline shop. Of course, things are more expensive now but I'd hope not that much more.

After doing a lot of reading about others' experiences I decided 4.56 would be ideal but I just never got around to it. My 5th wheel is now pretty much parked and being used as a part-residence so it's unlikely I'll end up doing it.
