I ended up handing this off to my attorney. I did my part, paid the money, changed the oil, etc. I shouldn’t have to convince the dealer there’s an issue after 13k miles. Ram corporate reached out, they say they will do whatever it takes, I highly doubt it.
Oil change update, 1100 miles...
I know what tow haul is haha, I have excavators and skid steers we tow all the time.
So, anytime the engine rpm’s rise or fall, it clacks away. In seems louder in tow haul mode, but that’s primarily because the truck is maintaining a higher RPM while accelerating and decelerating.
It is...
Will do, it’s going to be a high mileage week, so maybe by next weekend I see where we are at. Currently not towing, it’s at its loudest on deceleration, maybe while the oil pressure is dropping. Towing, it’s just loud all the time.
Spoke too soon, put about 110 miles on it yesterday, hooked my bass boat up this morning (4300lbs) and she’s clacking louder than ever. This is insane.
Yeah that’s my course right now. 4 dealer visits, 2 different dealers. Dealer suits won’t go anywhere but the manufacturer one will. And even if it doesn’t, it’s natural for them all to scramble to attention for you. It’s called the Marshall just served you effect. And since there’s no such...
I’m shocked that the eco mode 4 cylinder noise and vibration and thud is gone. I was struggling with accepting that as a feature of a work truck. I’ll spread the word on the hemi honey, my fleet mechanic says the findings are interesting. I stocked up on those RP 20-820’s also.
2023 15k miles so yes. Been to two dealers. 3 times total, per dealers no issues.
After using the redline it honestly feels like a completely different motor. You can’t feel the vibration in 4 cylinder mode, which is awesome. Thanks for the info gentlemen.
Both are Dry outside, and at the seal of the filter and oil pan plug.
So just did the oil, let the truck get hot. With the larger filter and redline 5w30 it definitely idles much much quieter, and the clacking sound is also much much quieter. The clacking at its loudest when RPM’s are...
After shooting an email off to the operating partner at the dealer, a ride with a ram corporate field engineer is scheduled a couple of weeks from now. Shouldn’t have to put it in drive, you can hear it from a standstill with light throttle.
I just ordered a RP20-820 and 2 gallons of redline 5w30. I’ll keep you guys posted. Does it make sense that this type of stuff isn’t corrected by dealers under warranty? Seems like an awfully fussy engine for a work truck…. I’ve bought ford diesel for years for work. Last year I bought a...
I’ll go going on that thank you.
No tick at start up, cold idle, or warm idle. Doesn’t start until you’ve been driving for about 20 mins and then it turns into a pretty loud clacking. I’m not sure what a uae is, but there a CAT dealer down the street from me that does some oil analyses, I’ll...
yeah i kind of figured most of them don't sound like this. the service manager at the dealer stated they compared it to two other new trucks on the lot side by side and all three sound the same. what's odd to me is that it doesn't start until the truck is hot, and any RPM over idle. cold...
I own a 2023 ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi, with 14k miles on it. Unfortunately I’m having some clacking or ticking issues with it. At start up and idle there is no clacking. However, under acceleration or downshifting and coasting there is a very loud and very distinct clacking noise coming...
