You need either a 2500 or a 3500 (better) for a trailer that large, You will never get safe towing stability with a light weight truck, I have a 26 foot airstream which is right at the breaking point of the 1500/2500 dilemma - what we finally did was buy a 2500 and quite fighting the problem...
some interesting advise popping up - you should check out RV.net which is good Sams forum, you can get some good references there. Some one pointed out that your large tire size are not good for towing which is good advise. I tow a 26 ft Airstream with my 2500 cummins,
one thing to keep...
You can pull it with the semi, no problem. But I fought that battle for 5 years and finally upgraded to a 2500 cummins, its a much better truck for towing TT the size of yours, More stable and better braking and better MPG
Airstream owners are the worst - they always want to pull with something stylish like a BMW, Most 25 foot and longer Airstreams have hitch weights in excess of 1000 pounds, add a little cargo in the trailer and TV and you are way over real quick. We were right on or just a little over the...
I have a 26 ft Airstream, with propane, batteries and cargo plus the WDH I am right at 1100 pounds hitch wt. My 1500 was over loaded, it pulled great but but it was hard to get the wt to balance out. I solved that problem with a 2500 and the cummins.
A 1500 will be more than maxed out on payload. this is a good time to get a 2500; I was towing our Airstream with a 1500 and the 392, it all worked okay but I could feel that I was overloaded. Crew cab 2500 short bed is only slightly longer than the 1500 but you will have a much more capable...
That mpg sounds pretty normal, Pulling an Airstream I get 11-14 depending on winds. When I had a 1500 Hemi I got 11-13 depending on the wind etc. I bought this truck and the previous one to get the job done safely, not mpg.
You will be within the towing and loading specs of your truck with that ultra-light, I had a similar TT and Ram with the 3.21 and had no issues, You will need a good Weight Distribution hitch, there are several to chose from but I would get a quality one. (check out etrailer.com) I prefer...
WDH (with sway control) and brake controller should be required for pulling a trailer of that weight. I travel with a 26 foot Airstream (6500 lbs) and approach max load limits when I include hitch wt and what is in the truck bed. Its all about safety, for you and the other vehicles on the...
