210K miles, about 100K since last trans service. A couple days ago I felt a thump going around 60. Dropped out of overdrive. RPMs went from 1500 to about 2500. After that stayed in 3rd gear, not downshifting. After restarting, worked okay for 6 or seven min, then happened again. Codes says "shift solenoid A".
Does anyone know the most likely cause. Bad solenoid, dirty oil, TCM?. any help appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

Solenoid likely went out or is sticking, you'll have to get the valve body apart to get to it. When the computer sees the trans having a hard time getting into a gear it will lock that gear out and only allow up to that gear. I would say that if you're going into it with the mileage you might as well get a rebuild.
