Nice night shots LB! I need to experiment more with the night shots! I need to put my tripod to work. :p

most were took with tripod. 15 sec exposure is a long time to keep the camera still. It still has some grainyness to it at ISO 200. Weakness of an older point and shoot

Ha'Penny Bridge in Dublin, Ireland shot in monochromatic. Water is your friend...reflections, like in Sladerades shot of Galveston, above, add additional elements of interest and drama. Somewhat dramatic perspectives in this shot intensified by the building skylined along the bar reflected in the river.

This shot is not retouched. It's got quite a bit of digital noise in it but didn't want to mess with it. (I might do a bit of post soon though) The sunrise made it look like the one building was becoming colorized in what was otherwise an almost monochromatic scene. Rules: golden hours, and be there. Included the trees on the left to "frame" the photo. Great angle: the diagonal from top right to bottom left of the top of the buildings. Interest in the foreground...the clock with the roman numerals is in focus. This was our third morning in Dublin. We capitalized in the two gloriously sunny days a year that the UK gets! Anyway, the sun finding the small gap between the horizon and the clouds for this shot was pure serendipity. It was actually cloudy and rainy/drizzely that morning.

Here is a monochrom shot of a candle inside Berg Soonek. Aperture priority, ISO 320, F5.6, shutter 1/49
CandleinBeautifulLight.jpg

Thanks! Interesting point: to my naked eye, the colors in the columns were beautiful, but not that beautiful. It was a bit of a hazy day with an occasional sprinkle. ISO 400, F5.6, shutter 1/30

I love the details and mood in B&W.

Here are some pics I took with my Canon P&S

Outside at night - a set on Flickr

I'm trying to get jess to take some with hers tonight

You live up north right? Have you tried taking pic's of aurora borealis?

Try some star trails. You can get some really nice effects especially if you take some evening shots then combine them with your night time pic's.

Here's one from our trip to Dublin, Ireland.

I would love to try this! What lense and settings? I have the stock 18-55mm EFS lense, a 55-250mm EFS lense, and a 50mm fixed.

I imagine having the North Star somewhere within the frame would yield the best results...generally speaking?

I havent shot fireworks in a long time, when I did shot them I had an aperture of f/2.8 or lower so I cloud drop the iso to prevent noise. shutter speed of about 1-3 seconds to get the trail of the firework. Or you could put it at f/8 and bump up the iso to get a shaper shot. If you wan to freeze it in action shutter speed should be about 1/120th and to have a trail 1-3 seconds. It will require playing the iso as well. Manual mode would be the best way to nail the shot. There was a website that explains this much better than me. I cant remember it to save my life right now

I would use the 18-55 at the widest setting but try playing with it and see what looks the best. I used Tokina AF 10-17mm fisheye. Set at 25.0 sec at f/5.0, iso 400 10mm. And set at multiple exposure so I don't have to be out there for almost two hours and close to 200 pic's. I'll post up my base pic and a few in between pic's.

And I believe so, I still need to figure where to aim since I'm in New Mexico to get those nice circle's going.

Well dang you guys are closer than I lol.
